My brother dubbed it the "Yugo, I stay." (Un)fortunately, my dad totaled it while driving home 7 sheets to the wind one night and hitting an exit sign. It just jumped right out and hit him. So, my graduation gift was a 1990 Mustang.

Um, any tips on teaching a girl how to play the clutch and gas off each other in a 1996 Ford Escort? I'm failing miserably.[/QUOTE]
Check UTUBE. Maybe if she see's it she can relate to it better.

I bypass I-44 every time I get routed on it. US-71 to I-540 to I-40, or the opposite if I'm headed eastbound.

A friend of mine in college long ago drove a tow truck to make money. One day, he was called to repo a Yugo from a non-payer, so he found the place, backed up to the car, hoisted it, and drove away. With the Yugo's bumper firmly attached to the hook and the car sitting in the driveway. It seems the bumper wasn't all that much protection to the occupants. My buddy told his boss who told the bank and they said fuggedaboudit! It wasn't worth the repo.

I got a brand new truck and she hated that she could not drive it. She said it was hopeless. I put her in the driver seat slapped it in second and off we went did about 10 start stops. Then went to first and said now just a little slower. Voila. in two hours she was a pro.
Also once they get it a little have them come off the clutch with no gas (SLOOOOOW) to get the feel for when it catches. This helps them learn how to properly start on uphill.
Just 2 cents but they 2nd gear trick has been good for my buddies teaching their kids as weel
