I was recruited by one of those driver recruitment companies back in late Oct. Asked if I would be interested in being home daily and driving for an O/O with 18 tractors, So I took the bait and applied.
After giving notice and doing the right thing and time it was starting day with OL' SKOOL. The company is based out of S. Jordan ,Utah. But, this operation is being run out of Loves Park , Il. I showed up on Tuesday Nov.8th. An ugly school bus yellow 06 T2000 was waiting for me with a beat up Deer catcher bumper and a starter that was out completely. It had to have someone go to a local fuel stop and bring 6gallon cans of fuel back to get going. I was pull started and told to take it to a repair shop at the 93mm on I-80 for starter replacement. 8 hrs later and come to find out the reason for it going out is that this shop had put the wrong starter in the week b-4. Now that it was repaired the dash lights no longer worked nor did the markers. Instead of using the fault codes to find the problem this shop prefered to bare wires and use a razor blade and electrical probe. They could not fix it and recommended I take it elsewhere but charged the company for the time spent trying. I had to beg for money to buy fuel. The lights didn't work and this is the best part. They haul containers of grain . Which I was told , needed a permit at a cost of $180 per week per truck for hauling heavy (90,000+)lbs. thru a short stretch of city streets in Elwood, IL.These loads I was told before starting this job could be done at a rate of 2 per day in 10-12 hours time. Or $210 per day. Not a snowballs chance! There was no way to get this done. Anyway back to Elwood. They were asked about the permit and I was told to stick an expired permit in the window. IT DID NOT FOOL OFFICER EDWARD WRIGHT OF THE ELWOOD POLICE DEPT. Out came the portables from his Ford Explorer. Bridge law was the most expensive he could come up with. Axles 2-5. $4870 worth. 07:43 A.M. and at 17:00 he finally handed me the ticket because this company could not get the money into a Comcheck acct. They did not have $4870 ! They con-ed me into several trips maybe 800 miles all week never paid me a dime and was pissed because I quit. And this is a true understatement

Just a follow up foot note. They never paid me a penny for a weeks worth of my time. There are Illinois laws that would constitute a misdemeanor and I am contemplating the pursuit of these ramifications.. Not for the minimal amount of recourse, but for the satisfaction of speaking my peace.

Just a follow up. It is now January 26th. Today I received a summons from the Will County Court. OL SKOOL never paid the ticket for $4870 and they are coming after me for it.

your the driver. you will pay or your screwed. you should have known the rules. you should of said NO I AM NOT DOING THIS. Now look were you are. You need to stand up for yourself.

Sorry I should harsh but I am so sick and tired of drivers getting walked on when all they had to do was say NO and walk away.

You are in charge if you are driving and if something aint right, walk away and find another place to work.
