I have a little list for you
Finally, if you know someone whose less than 130lbs, have them do gentle steps on your back while you lay down. You must hold breathe while the pressure is being applied.... I have my little boys do this., and it always helps.
- Iboprufen or Aleve
- (super)-hot shower targeting the lower back, while doing cat-stretches
- Relocating your wallet
- Seat positioning
- Circular hip rotation (like hula hoop dancing)
- Tai-chi stretches - even in a truck stop. Dont be shy. gotta do what u gotta do.
- Chiropractor - reset the spine <---- feels awesome
Old age is catching up

In large quantities its like burning a hole in a filter, your liver.
A little Ibuprophen at a time is ok.daf105paccar Thanks this. -
I did roofing as a summer job, and boy, ONE DAY, I lifted something the wrong way...next morning, I try sliding out of bed and my hips/legs did not respond (think paraplegic). I had to crawl out of bed that morning, dragging my legs into the bath-tub - that was a scary moment.
From that day, I'm very careful to what I expose my lower back to...........NavigatorWife and Scooter Jones Thank this. -
I'm 71 and I have spinal stenosis. As long as I'm careful how I sit and stand and lift it's not too bad.
I tarped a load of lumber last week for one of our guys who had to leave early. Fifty two feet of lumber on a 48 footer, 14 feet high. By the time I was done I was sore but still ambulatory. The next morning it took me half an hour just to get out of bed. I doubt if I could do it full time again.
OP...look for a good tanker job. Those hoses are heavy, like PattyJ said, but there are ways to handle them where you're not picking up the whole hose at once, just segmenting it or rolling it to drain. Climbing the ladders isn't a big deal if you're careful.NavigatorWife, TheBusker and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
Funny....
When I did construction work it was never lifting that put me out of commission. It was the staying bent over for extended periods.Highway Sailor, Oxbow and spyder7723 Thank this. -
I those days i didn't run west of Chicago. The hills in pa and west Virginia was the worse i saw. But after running a 318 with no jake brake in a freaking international, getting that k100 with the 12v92 put a big ol smile on my face. No longer was i the first to leave canton and be the last to arrive in roanoke. Or worse. Youngstown to Baltimore. I hear people whine about i68 today and i think they are spoiled princesses. Run it with a 238 and no jake. Thats a 20 hour trip.NavigatorWife, intrepidor, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this.

Just think about how they’d whine if they had to run through there back when it was still US-48.
Oxbow and spyder7723 Thank this. -
I will have to take your word for it cause i ain't that old. Think it was 97, maybe 98 the first time i ventured that way. I tried not to venture to far from the state line being as how i only had an intrastate cdl till i turned 21 and was allowed to roam free.NavigatorWife, Oxbow and MACK E-6 Thank this.

When my sacroiliac joint started giving me problems in my mid 30's, I would roll out of bed and crawl over to the staircase facing upwards and bend my back and body forward, crying like a baby in so much pain. Back pain can be one of the most debilitating experiences we have as humans.NavigatorWife, Oxbow, Ruthless and 1 other person Thank this.

It was in the early 90’s, I believe, when they extended the freeway from Cumberland the rest of the way east to I-70.OLDSKOOLERnWV and spyder7723 Thank this.
