I actually have a bad 5th lumbar. And most of them I don't have much problem. But once in a while it goes left and I start thinking of doing something easier. Got a heat pad, roll on ice hot by the six pack, as well as ibuprofen by the tub. Just looking for ideas.

Im gonna suggest looking at your boots for back problems. I used to run heavy wrecker on the big road and boots never lasted 6 months. Worked hard and ate anything I wanted. Fast forward to having my own ride and started putting on weight. Started to have back and knee pain. I chaulked it up to age, and lots of sports at a young age. The MRS. is the one that seen me in pain and asked when was the last time I bought new work boots. This was the first time in my life I couldnt remember how old they were. New boots and back and knee pain went away. Plus gel inserts help. But I second exercise too. The first month or two sucks. Once past that you start to feel great. I actuall feel bad if i miss a workout now. But please spend time streching.

I appreciate all the replies. Even the two stroke memories ( drove several in the day). Truckers can't stay on subject long.

My wrecker days are over. 23 yrs is enough, I came back to flatbed for the rest and relaxation lol. I'm a shorts and tenner shoe kinda driver now (when practical Been thinking about a ###### to make the outfit complete.). Crawling under trucks, wrestling drive lines, working wrecks and stacking spilled loads done me in. Knees are about shot, hands are worn out, you know, just falling apart at the joints.

I'm still sticking with going towards tanking. Hoses are the heaviest things you'll have to lift; no pitching or chaining or bungees, either. You'll probably have to change the attire, however...slacks and steel toes; often a Zuit Suit if you haul hazmat ( I don't...usually. )

I did wrecker when I was younger and yep, that sure was a workout~!

Best to you, either way! Be safe, feel better.

Yep old age something we all eventually will have to deal with but yeah try a trucking job that demands less strain on your body.

Did the wrecker/rollback thing since 1983. Don't know anything else. Got rust in my blood, I guess.
Didn't say enough about the inversion table. It helps me immensely. Just did 2 minutes on it before
I picked up the laptop. Your 5th lumbar will thank you. Stretching out your back like that upside down
can suck the disc back into place if it is bulging. I do it in between exercises, running, and stretching.
Or as soon as I feel my back out, I get on it and hang, relax, and twist around, to make it pop back in.
Many times I avoid going to Chiropractor, cause I fix it myself that way. Not every time, but most.

NavigatorWife, cool7035 and G13Tomcat Thank this.

I use my Teeter upside down thingy almost daily, as well. LOVE it. Great point I didn't think to mention, either.
Chiropractor, maybe once a month, just for the added effects. (And they take my insurance!)

    NavigatorWife Thanks this.
