They're still hiring, from what I know. They're growing like gangbusters! They also got a new, lighted sign that's visible from I-70. Speaking of Central Transport, what do you all think of the Central/Vitran merger? I always do a double-take when I see a Central truck pulling a Vitran trailer, and vice-versa. And yeah, just one look at that terminal down the street, always makes me glad that I was lucky enough to get hired on with OD right out of school. Anyway, OD picked up a lot of business from Central/Vitran, in part of the recent California truck law. Also, whenever their customers couldn't get Central/Vitran to move their freight, they would just call us, so they were already used to working with us.
Cello, thanks for the posts. I planning on trying to get hired on a OD after the first of the year.. got all needed endoresements just waiting for a hefty bonus to pay out where im at now, which happens 1/1 and I'm out. My brother inlaw works at od and loves it..
I chose to stay on the open board, since I run days. When I called in to bid they had two CHI runs available that had city runs included, which isn't my cup of tea.
Hey cellopudding just started 2 weeks ago I was surprised that the chi run made it down to me so far loving the money working here. My friend Gomer1969 helped me get on. Hope to get to talk to you more.
Awesome! I'll have to try to meet you guys sometime soon. Did you take the CHI run or are you still on the board?
Whew! What a week! Thursday--Went to Chicago. Had to take a detour around Central Avenue and go down Cicero to 47th. Went to Wabash and picked up a 48 footer and drove it back in the snow. 372 miles. Friday--Morristown, OH. Used my entire 11 hours to make the run due to the snow. I must've seen 5 trucks jacknifed on the side of I-70 in either direction. 534 miles. Saturday--Nashville, TN. Went to the terminal expecting a meet and ended up doing a regular terminal run instead. The terminal had a bunch of dropped trailers all over the place too, so I had to move a bunch of stuff out of the way to get to my trailers. I spent 2 hours at the terminal that night. Used my entire 14 hours today. 612 miles. Sunday--Detroit, MI. Went nice and slow due to the ice storms. When I got to Detroit it started snowing. When I left, there was already an inch of snow on the ground. I hooked a set of empties and started back, but only made it to Napoleon, OH before I decided to call it a night. Finished my run today, Monday, and am now taking a mental health holiday after dealing with all the severe weather this week. 608 miles. 2126 total miles this week! And that's with it being a short week, due to the weather and all. I'll still clear $1000 gross this week before taxes and bennies. I got my uniforms as well, so that's exciting! Be safe out there, especially if you're driving in the areas hit by the winter storms.
