Yeah. Some just don't like truckers. I don't understand. I've only dealt with illinois state police in my truck. And he flat out told me he just wanted to check permits and such. Then he joked around for a few about turning on the reefer and cracking the seal to "test" my beer load. Then when I told him it was only natural light. He joked around and said natural light? Isn't that what poor people drink? Not worth breaking the seal. Had me cracking up. Lol. I'm just glad my trailer registration was there. One disadvantage to d/h

Hah! Now that's funny. I dealt with an Illinois trooper a while back when I witnessed an accident and had to give a statement. Not nearly as funny as your story, but the guy was definitely one of the chillest officers I've ever dealt with. He even asked me to inspect the involved truck to determine if it was safe to drive (it wasn't).

Another week has gone by! No meets this week, just terminals.
Thursday--St. Louis. Missed having to make an extra stop in Decatur, IL by just a few minutes. 510 miles.
Friday--St. Louis again. 510 miles.
Saturday--Nashville and home via Louisville. 625 miles.
Sunday--St. Louis, yet again. 510 Miles.
Monday--Columbus, OH. 380 miles. -
Cello, did you work elsewhere previously or did OD hire you straight out of CDL school?
-
I was hired straight out of school. My experience is not typical. The terminal in Indy grew so quickly that they couldn't find enough experienced drivers to fill the seats. I feel that I got great training with them and feel confident in my ability to handle a double rig.
mtgmaker Thanks this. -
So, speaking of terminal growth...
Had the quarterly meeting today. Was told by management that the company surpassed profit and earnings expectations for 2013, and was set for RECORD growth through 2014. Indy terminal is now the number one terminal in the company, not only in terms of earnings, but just in general. As for what this means for us, the drivers, we will be adding quite a few drivers and scheduled bid runs to the linehaul operations. We currently have 182 linehaul drivers. Management wants to increase that number to 225 by June, and round out the year with 250. They want to have 25 teams operating out of Indy by the end of the year as well. To give you an idea of how badly we need more drivers, we are currently running 200 loads BEHIND out of Indy.
Guys, if you're interested in getting on with this company, right now is the time, especially if you're interested in running out of Indy. It doesn't even matter if you don't live in Central Indiana, I'm sure they will be hiring for team drivers and solo drivers who "run wild" in addition to home-daily drivers.
Ran to Franklin, KY for a meet today. 496 miles. -
Interesting. I'll have to look into that. I know OD has a terminal up here in Minneapolis, but I haven't checked yet to see if they have any linehaul openings. I'm not interested in driving teams. I would rather drive solo. Thanks for the info.

thinking of applying, I have my tanker and hazmat, just not the doubles. Should I wait to apply until after I get doubles? I live in Greensboro NC as well
-
Yes. They won't let you apply without the doubles endorsement. Should just be a written test. -
