True, and the union pension fund is bankrupt due to waste and mismanagement such as giving 10's of millions of union members money to Democrats running for political office or re-election.
You're better off working for Old Dominion and managing your own pension plan.

The one guy said location. That is important. You drive all day and back and forth to work in your pov. Its a lot of work too so if you are lazy you cant do p&d. I used my motorcycle a lot back and forth. I would say abf if you can get hired by them and it works for you. Od is a great ltl also. So either way really.

JenV said they were going to HACC so that means they may live around Carlisle, just a guess though. Both companies are great, I work for ABF and a friend of mine works for OD. I am linehaul and he runs team. He made around 120k last year while I would have made 80 if not for illness. His benefits are cheap per week while mine are free, I think he pays like $18 a week or something. I am not one of those pro union or anti union guys I just want whats best for your situation so it really depends on what you want.

I'm a union LTL driver and would go OD over ABF. The union sucks and the pension will dry up by the time you retire. Equipment is better at OD and you will be treated better too. It takes a long time to get a decent run at ABF and odds are you'll be spending a ton of time by the phone waiting for a work call. OD by a landslide.

I work for OD. Great company to work for. I've never encountered another place where the employees across the board from the front office to the dock are as consistently satisfied with their jobs. Ever pass by an OD truck and the driver looks like a loon talking to himself? He's not. He's so happy he's singing out loud.

Union/nonunion is a matter of personal preference. In this case the difference is minimal. OD has gone to great lengths to foster good employee/management relations. There is no Us vs. Them mentality. We're all there to move freight in one way or another.

OD has great equipment, and it's kept in good repair. Don't know about ABF, but it looks decent. I'm fascinated with their trailers. Are they silver or are they gray?

Solo top pay is .62. 1.50 per click hooking , unhooking . They word it funny. Basically $6 to hook a set or break a set. 1.50 to fuel the truck. Been with them 2 years so far and love it.

What did you gross last year? Just curious, because I'm always looking at opportunities.

For reference, my current company pays $5 per click.
