I should of joined the trades. Replaced the interior doors in my house. First door took a long time to get hung level then to get it the trim all on right. But don’t union carpenters travel a heck of a lot on jobs?

I traveled here and there my first 6 years in, the most I spent away from home was 6 months, it was from one military base to another. I worked for NAVFAC owned by the Navy. My neck of the woods there’s so much work out here there’s really no need to travel anymore with all these old buildings getting renovated and new building getting built on the Naval bases.Digman943 Thanks this.

Old Dominion and FedEx Freight are notorious for over hiring from my perspective.Radman, Cardfan89 and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this.

This is true. I got laughed at on the other forum in the OD section a year before the pandemic hit. I said Saia didn’t over hire like them so we don’t usually lay-off drivers. Sure nuff OD did lay offs during the pandemic for drivers and they didn’t call everyone back either. We layed off office people first and it might have gotten to the dock in the company. But from what I understand no driver got furloughed. We had drivers maybe drop to 4 day work week and city only getting 40hrs. FedEx freight has a huge terminal here. They dropped there bids down and had a 30-40 maybe more Linehaul drivers on Extraboard. Something crazy like that. At my terminal we have maybe 2-5 drivers on our linehaul system(Extraboard) board. We are a pretty decent size terminal too.Last edited: Sep 14, 2020
McUzi, MACK E-6 and LTLdreamin Thank this. -
I didn't go to the interview. I emailed them and withdrew my application. I don't want the stress of never knowing when I'll be escorted off the property and I'm at a pretty secure 1099 gig right now so I didn't want to risk it...Thanks for all the insights guys. I'll patiently wait for Saia to call me back and submit and application to A Duie Pyle in the meanwhile.
