**Bump**
Just a heads up. I have a 9 year old conviction. I am working. It's not the best but I have an income. With a Federal grant through the county jobs and family service office I was able to get my CDL training paid for and reimbursed for milage to and from school while going. I went through Southern State Community College here in Piketon Ohio. I found a company to hire me that only required 3 years on the conviction. I stayed with them for 15 months. I have 8 months with my present employer. There were a couple of other companies that I went to for a job but they didn't last as they were total crap and I just didn't want to lay my head down at night wondering why I put myself in that position.
Theft is a hard one to get around. At least that's what I have been told. One of my convictions was for drug possession. That's a hard one too but if you are serious, and you do the footwork, you can get around it. Just keep trying and once you get on with someone, stay the course and get some experience and eat a little crap if you have too. Most of us do anyways.
If your just starting out in this industry and your like most new drivers, your going to spend the first 6 months quiting everyday. It's frustrating as hell trying to adjust to the stress of the job and taking on a carreer that feels very much like it is taking over you life. Unless you are careful, it will. Try to find someone that will get you home every weekend. Your going to need that time to relax and gather yourself for another week. Unless of course you just have nothing tying you to home that makes it essential that you be there. Then you may not need to refuel and maintain a relationship. It's different for everyone but difficult for all when you first start out driving.
If this is what you really want to do, it can be done.

I thought companies could not go back more than seven years? I am 46, I have a couple of felonies from when I was 18 years old. It has never, ever been an issue for me and I have worked in refineries and in fact, just got my TSA clearance for my HAZMAT endorsement a few months ago! Hmmmmm.

I was a prehire for Werner. I gave full disclosure. A 1968 Marjuana felony. A 1971 DUI. I got unprehired after later ?s about 1968. Apparently they made a big deal out of it. I have no other record. That is a very long time ago. So should I have just ommited it? Companies can fire at will anyway? Until I have tried to enter trucking I forgot about it & never mentioned it & my employment was not hindered.

Just did a little searching on this topic. Not sure about it, but I did come up with this...
Frequently Asked DAC Report Questions
DISCLAIMER Please note that we do not guarantee any of the following information since it is gathered from reports from other truck drivers. In addition DAC policies are subject to change so please verify any of the information relative to your own particular situation.
Is Drug and Alcohol Information recorded on my DAC report?
By law, a company is required to release D&A information for the past 3 years...after 3 years, they do not have to. D&A information is now recorded on your DAC report.
How long does information stay on my DAC report?
A DAC report will typically keep information on it for 10 years. However, after 7 years, things like accidents, work record, and eligibility for rehire will be removed, leaving only the dates of employment and what type of experience you had. Additionally, if a company goes out of business, accidents, work record, and eligibility for rehire is supposed to be removed. Baack Thanks this. -

I just got out of school with my CDL. there were a few fellas who were financed thru the State (MO). I asked them how they did that as I have to pay mine back, they don't. They suggested to go to the nearest unemployment office and ask bout truck driving jobs, ask them bout qualifications (usually same as unemployment benefit req.), and ask bout State Funded training. If u are able to qualify...u don't have to pay a dime...the school they send u to will look for companies (multiple) to hire u...all u have to do is be honest bout ur past and drug free, of course. As I stated, I know of a few that were at my school and had past records, and were hired by Swift, Werner, Trans Am, Roel, and others...good luck.

Have you talked to a lawyer about the expungement procedures for your jurisdiction?
You may be able to go back to court and seek the removal/concealment of that old incident. It is done all the time and usually sooner than 10 years. You are not "Lying" about the incident you just are not "Required" to discuss it anymore and employees can't see it either.

Oops, I meant Employers can't see expunged records.
Government Security Clearance jobs stll will see it though.
Good luck

I went through that procedure with them when I did the state funded schooling. There are some convictions that they can get expunged and some they can't. You will have to discuss that with them when you interview. They can check to see if you qualify.

If it happened, you should list it.
Plain and simple......................
We just had a new driver, with a record from the 1970's, he never listed it--but it showed up on a check !!!!
