When I was 55 years old, the steel mill I had worked at for the last 30 years closed down, so I got my CDL and now at age 61 I deliver food to grocery warehouses. Not the most glamorous or well paying of driving jobs, but I'm home everynight and I like it. No age discrimination, in fact, there is an equal amount of younger guys vs older guys here. The younger guys get the better paying routes while us older guys get the easier routes and everyone is happy.

At 51 I'm looking to get away from construction management due to layoff and when ya work the constant stress from worrying about having a job.
I've always been interested in OTR driving but didnt follow up years ago due to young children. Now the kids are out on their own and I believe it's time to make the change.

    AGE: 55, At 51 ?
Did you find that you got moved up faster than the younger drivers?
Managment will trust you with loads faster, since you will tend to follow the drving rules and actually go to work when the weather gets cold?
