Long story short House flooded lost everything having to start over very little money left to Work With or credit available to spend

Haven’t seen the truck yet but it’s a 1970s to late 1980s International cabover Cummins engine and I think a nine speed or 10 speed.

I know the guy was using it to pull a flatbed trailer two years ago he said he would sell it to me for 3- 3500 .

Need it to pull a lowboy for short trips
    Guess 100 miles max .

anything to look for ? I know it was sitting for a few year Prior. I’m checking it out Tuesday

At that price, that age, sitting that long I would pass. Dollars to donuts its going to cost you at least double the purchase price just to get it roadworthy.

Might be best to drive someone else's truck until you've saved up for a better starter truck.

Not enough money to drive some one else truck right now .

if I got him down to 2 grand what would be the down sides of it ? Don’t think it would be able to sell it again for at least 2 grand

Seals and rubber tend to be a problem on vehicles that have sat for a few years.

You can look at all the wheel seals and differential seals and the transmission seal but probably the leak will start after you've gone down the road a while. The rubber inside the brake cans will deteriorate over time also.

If the tires were three years old when the truck was parked now they're 5 years old maybe 6 years old maybe older... Dry rotting?

Also algae in fuel tanks can be a problem.

The batteries will most likely have to be replaced.

The Cummins will blow out some white smoke when it first starts the colder it is the more white smoke.

It should completely clear up after the engine warms up.

Honestly I think that truck will be nothing more than a money pit.

I think we're just not sure what it is that you're trying to achieve exactly or what you expect out of a $2,000 truck.

I wouldn't be kidding you if I said a $2,000 truck I would probably figure $10,000 to put into it without blinking an eye. Probably more.

It might make a few trips for you but you could make one trip and blow the radiator out. That's $1,500.

You could make another trip and blow out the turbo. Another $1,500.

You can make the next trip and the clutch grenades.

There is another couple thousand dollars.

And then you might make another trip and DOT might give you a ticket bigger than everything I just listed plus the price of the truck.

I'm not really sure what to tell you but if you think you're going to buy $2,000 truck and use it for any period of time without doing anything to it, I don't think it's going to work out for you.

If it was a farm truck you were going to use on your own property that would probably be okay, but something you're going to earn a living with going down the road... That's very highly unlikely.

If its been sitting a few years in the sun, it'll more than likely need new rubber all around. Even cheap Chinese tires will be north of $1,500.
