Looking around for s####s and giggles, not necessarily looking to buy.
Just curious how some of you that have owned them feel about them.
I’m asking specifically say up until 2005. 9200, 9400, 9900.
Given that most trucks carry similar specs across the board, it doesn’t seem like they would make a bad first truck. Given you had it checked out and did all your due diligence on it. Re sale obviously wouldn’t be a concern ‘cause for the price and the beating it’s gonna take, you wouldn’t expect much anyway.
Driven quite a few different makes and models. 389s, W900s, Western Stars. Cascadias etc... Never an International or a Mack.
So I’m curious on opinions about them.

I love my first and only truck. 2001 9200I with ISX and 10 spd.
Paid $13k for it in October 2015 with 700k miles. I’ve spent another $40k in parts on it and put another 250k miles on it so far. So bout .16 cents per mile. That includes everything. Tires, oil changes, seats, chrome, steering wheels, lights, engine, trans, 3 drive shafts..... etc.
The cabs are all the same and seem relatively solid and made from aluminum. Plan on spending some money getting them up to snuff though.
The dash framework is made of plastic and will need to be addressed. They still make and use this cab with minor changes so all parts are still available. Cab parts are expensive unless you have a good relationship with the dealer.
Running gear stuff you can buy anywhere and are inexpensive.Last edited: Jul 30, 2018

They have been built on the same foundation for a long time. Longer than my 89.
They have prefered options with air ride, set back axles, etc. The newest one here is a 9400 with a N14. Good dependable truck. I was a big IHC fan intel they became overly electronic and had emission problems on later models. Other companies have similar problems but some are not as bad.
I really dislike the truck similar to Tug Toy's here. It has the three pedal auto and has put me in some bad spots. Transmission related.
Do some research on the specs of the trucks you are looking at. I thank there are some good deals to be had. The later model 388's here have done a good job but you still have to look at specs.
Just my opinion. Good LuckSavageMuffin Thanks this. -
Around 05? they cheapened up the interior appearance wise. Especially on the eagle packages. Mechanically they seemed about the same. Although a lot of guys l know said the earlier the better Appearance wise l like the late 90's but hard to find one nowadays thats not worn out or beat to death. Make sure you have a good dealer close by as a lot of them only seem interested in fleet sakes and not really into 1 truck guys imo. Good luck in any case.

Thanks everyone that has taken time to reply. As stated, I don’t know much about them so just trying to get the inside scoop on it and learn more from folks who may have been in them or owned them.

Internationals are good trucks. They are roomy and hold the road good. First one I drove was a Transtar cabover but I loved it.
