All you need to make is $ 200 a week? You sould have made that clear sooner. Some where there is a flease/lease with your name on it.

I can get the truck for 1k and spend about $600 for the motor mods, so where can you find me a truck ready to roll for $1600? I really like the look of the truck too ( other than it needs repainted ) so I am dead set on her.

I truly believe that the 454 will work. Its a Chevy, come on guys. Also, does anyone know where I can get used decent tires for cheap?

    That is cheap.

But I'm telling you it won't work. That rig will not pull 80,000 up a mountain. You'd be lucky to move 80,000 lbs on flat ground.

Your dreams of being a successful O/O do not lie with this rig.

A set of tires is going to run more than that truck.

I just need 2 tires since the front tires are flat & dry rotted.

I have changed my mind as you seem to know it will work. Please keep us updated. Post pics of the 454 swap.

What year Chevy motor? Some years were good, other years were crap. And to reiterate previous points made, you're just not gonna have the torque necessary to move a big truck. Think about it for a second. Chevy dropped the 454s into what? The big camper special pick-ups? Maybe some "heavy duty" pickup trucks? Pulling a total payload of how much? Maybe 4,000 lbs.? Good lord man! The tractor alone weighs more than that. Tractors typically come in around 10 tons, give or take. Add in trailer weight, plus weight of the load, and you'll be lucky if that gas engine of yours moves the tires two inches before the danged thing blows up! If you're set on that old Pete, good for you. Look into a good Cat or Detroit engine to drop into that beast, and away you go. There's a good reason why we don't use gas engines in big trucks anymore.

Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,
But, he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn’t," but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and you know what?
    He couldn't do it!:biggrin_2559:

I mean we all know it would take take a Ford 429 to really pull those hills.:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

I will post pics in a month or so. My older brother will have to machine a bell housing adapter to mount the tranny to the 454, but I think that will be an easy part. Also I will get some money for scraping the motor, hell at least a hundred bucks.

I figure if they used to put the small block 350 in dump trucks, then why cant I put a 454 in my rig. Heck those dump trucks move a lot of weight.
