Sweet. See this is what trucking should still be. You don't know how excited I got when I saw that in the atlas

I've run that road many times. It adds an hour to the trip between OKC and Joplin but I think it's worth it.

66 will junction with 44 on the free section in Sapulpa so you can just stay on 66 to 44 and then down US75 to Jenks

If you are running on 44 to Missouri and want to avoid the toll, run to where 66 splits off again, then 66 east to US60, follow US60 into Missouri then catch MO43 up to where the Petro/Pilot/Love's is at or you can run US60 east to I49 then north to I44. Skips the tolls and the Missouri scales.

If you take a long look at a map you will see where the Interstate system has either chewed up or absorbed parts of all of the old US highways. I was just thinking about all of this last night while reading the seeing the country thread.

The first truck stop in America, The Dixie Trucker's Home in McLean Illinois, used to be at the intersection of US 66 and US 136. It still exists (as a Road Ranger) at the US 136 exit (exit 145) off of I-55 - I-55 annexed that section of US 66.

If you're running in California, you can see the old US60 sign behind the CA60 sign at the 10/60 split near Banning.

If you are headed near St Louis you can walk the old Chain of Rocks Bridge which carried 66. There are two "castles" out there that were water intakes for the muni water system. castlesweb.jpg
