Hi DD, unless you have a friend in the injection pump biz, that may be a bit tough. I knew a guy that rebuilt pumps, and they would not let him "turn them up".( or if you signed a waiver, there was no guarantee.)

Hey Semi, Merry Christmas to you and your family. There's still guys out there that can handle the pump work. I just wonder how much old Hogleg is putting in the hopper. Maybe it's one of those, why make three trips to the elevator when I get it done in two trips. Some of them farmers are like that!

I still get a chuckle out of people that think an aluminum piston 3406 is that much more reliable than an 855.

If I recall they would put a 350 pump and injectors in those small cam 290's to make a 335. I think that's what the old milk haulers out our way would do up in the hills. Am I onto something here Smokin CAT?

By lower, you mean comparing aluminum piston at 1200 to 1260 melting point, versus a steel top pison or even a solid steel piston like isx and acert uses.

Aluminum pistons are a thing of the past for todays diesel engines. Hell a steel piston can take 2500 to 3000 degrees, double what aluminum will take.

The only pistons I have ever damaged came out of a 3406, and I can tell you that the 3406 wont hold a candle to my 855.

At this point in time its just easier to pick a flow rate on an injector and have a pump to match it.

The OP really is fighting a losing battle just because of the timing of the small cam engines, adding fuel is risky business without getting the timing set right.
