I have a 3/4 ton Chevy duramax and the current antenna is on the front drivers fender. I like that location because I have a short box and I would assume the fifth wheel would hinder operation should I mount on the tool box. Magnet roof mount isn't for me, looks wise that is.

With that location obviously being a lower mounting place than the roof a top loaded antenna like a Firestick would be the best and most efficient antenna to use.

I do NOT recommend the guy at the Sapp Bros. I had him do a 29 LX back in 2012 and he clipped and snipped it. Didn't even touch the receive. I couldn't even use that radio until I brought it to DTB a year or so later, all it would do is squeal like a pig after a minute or so of talking.

There is a decent shop called Circuit Master just east of Des Moines, in the Flying J at exit 142.

I guess its possible for individuals to have different experiences with same tech, if that was him that was there in 2012, about a year ago I had him realign a Uniden 78ltw ( remove swing kit and replace limiter) and was very pleased with the results.

    Quick update.

Took the radio over to the guy at Sapp Brothers in Council Bluffs on Friday. He hooked it up and tested it, said everything was working as it should. So I had him put in a new meter (original one was stuck) and install new plastic over the frequency read out. I also purchased a new mic from him while I was there.

Today's task is to mount the antenna and try my hand at tuning.
