Thats is hilarious -
I guess every generation does the best they can with what they have. I ran Midwest to West Coast with a 318 screamin idiot detroit for a long time. Then I bought a truck with a 350 cummins and thought I was in tall cotton. We drove a lot of hours is how we got things done. Didn't have jake brakes either in my first 2 trucks and that really made for slow trips down the mountains. But back in those days you would talk to old timers that ran gas jobs and hydraulic brakes and you felt pretty good about what you had. I believe they call it evolution. The thing that's nice about modern equipment is the ride and how quiet they are today.

Back in '78 when I started driving as a new driver I would here stories from the real 'ol timers telling me about going to the west coast and driving the Rockies with there 150-190 H.P. Cummins, think about that when ya complain about your 290-300 H.P. was not enough......

318hp or 265hp w/ 105,500# hit a hill or a head wind below 20 mph. All I remember is loud and alot of shifting. Some thing from the stone age I don't miss.
