i'll go broke and my company will go bankrupt when that day comes. There's NO WAY that box will allow 2 trips to california every week. Without being in the truck all 7 days. California will eat up one 14 hour day on it's own.
that box can screw you ANY day of the week. Like, all the trucks parked on the side when the road gets shut down for a few hours. For instance.
it might work for all you that can't keep track of your hours and what not. But other then that. It's nothing but a screwing. You can plan your trip all you want. Something ALWAYS comes up to ruin your perfectly planned plan.
If your making more money, you wasn't making money to begin with. There's no way in heck, a box, that eats up your hours, can make you more money then paper. NO WAY.
I ran the box, my laptop runs circles around the box. And makes me MORE money. That box dropped my income 30%.
I'll stick to my laptop. The rest of you, can take that box and shove it where the sun don't shine.spax and BostonTanker Thank this. -
Call me an outlaw or whatever you want....but elogs are my generations cdl.....what I mean by that is between 88-91....over 1/4 million experienced drivers walked away and retired...refusing to take a bunch of unnecessary tests&pay 3-7x more for a license than ever before....my father&2 uncles just to name 3----combined 121years and about 12million safe miles between them....next came the new haz mat nonsence.....45%or roughly 1800 east coast 25+year gas jockeys @ jerzey&Philly terminals walked....the same WILL happen w/mandatory elogs....I have 40+ years and a verifiable 4.7million safe miles as of 1/1/15.....and my employer&friend is on notice.....to let me know 2wks ahead so I can give notice.....i will not turn 1minute....with them....and from what my boss has heard at the Pa Motor trk mtgs......carriers claim the have heard this from most of their senior drivers....im sure most of you won't miss us&many of you will still claim we are the reason there coming mandatory......but like it or don't....youve All seen the caliber of what's coming out here today....well there's your future.
.but don't worry....theyll all be runnin safe&legal just like you....LMAOscottlav46, Straight Stacks, Tonythetruckerdude and 12 others Thank this. -
I'm local and these elogs save me a lot of time. Plus if it's time to go home, it's time to go home no favours lol.
-
Ive done both. Got screwed with elogs never screwed with paper. On elogs if you follow the law u log in log on duty to pretrip. Find a flat tire have to wait 2 hours for road service to get to you another hour to change it. You just lost 3 hours on your 14. That happened to me a lot. So, then you do the illegal thing and pretrip before you log on. Then your wasting time waiting for the company required amount of time you have to log for pretrip.
Also, times I have been at the yard for 34 on hometime (didnt have a house to go to so did alot of 34s at the yard) I would need an mt to go back out and those were rare on the yard. I would drive around checking all the trailers. Our yard was big. If I didnt log out of the system first it would log me on duty and screw up my 34.
Im local now and on paper. Most days I work 10 to 12 hours. Home every night and all weekends. So ai reset all the time so it doesnt effect me anymore. If we had elogs in this situation it would be ok -
I can sure enough verify what you said. I started in 1986 with a chauffeurs license, and when CDL became mandatory I personally seen men walk away from trucking! These men men could do magic tricks with any Rig, but the CDL testing scared the he-ll out of them do to their education. Sadly those "Professionals" were replaced with highly educated throttle jockeys, and to say CDL's came about to keep the best of the best on the road is Bull S... Just keep telling yourself that!!
My God out I'm out of coffee.Straight Stacks, MJ1657, ‘Olhand and 1 other person Thank this. -
I dont know what state that was in. I know in OH with the chauffers liscense they just grandfathered them in. Didnt have to do test or anything.
-
Lot of us Granfathered in but still had to take the written test, that's what bothered the older generation / my mentors as I called them. Some had trouble reading and writing, They were afraid of the test, afraid if they failed it the Government would tell them hey..... You can't pass the written exam, you can't drive please turn in your keys and log book!!‘Olhand, CrappieJunkie and d o g Thank this.
-
We had to take the written tests in Texas. No driving test - that part was grandfathered - but there was no way out of doing the written test for the CDL and an additional test for each endorsement. Like 'olhand said, we lost a lot of good, safe drivers over that.
‘Olhand and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this. -
Exactly. I was one of those that said I'd never do it. But, in the last week before the deadline, I relented and went for the test. I sat next to a guy I knew that had been hauling gas for 40 years. He knew more about safe driving and safe handling of hazmat than all of the bureaucrats put together. But, he never even finished grade school and wasn't so good with reading and writing. I tried to help him with the test, but the examiner threw a fit and threatened both of us. After a few minutes of struggling with the test, he got up and walked out. He was crying when he left. The industry lost a helluva gas hauler that day. Are we better off, having lost all of that experience? Are we safer? I think not.scottlav46, MJ1657, 7-UP and 8 others Thank this.
