There are companies that will not hire a driver with a 15 MPH over the speed limit ticket. The license cancellation for reasons other than administrative is another serious hit. Either one, or both combined will be a automatic rejection from most of the cookie cutter companies. For insurance reasons, you are in the "major safety" violation category, and not eligible for employment.

Not trying to be a downer..........but that's the way it is today. Try some small scale companies first and see how it goes.

Best of luck to you pards. Chin up!

Yes still being able to get insurance and vehicle tags is confusing to me as well. I had the insurance on automatic renewal with progressive so maybe it slip though their system somehow.

Which trucking companies were willing to hire you after you got your problem resolved?
Some leads will help me know where to start looking for work.

I'll update this thread for anyone else that is searching for this info when I find out what my DMV history shows and what companies out there will offer me a job.

unfortunately I will now have to give you the worst news of the day.....if you look to the left you will see my status as wannabe. Now days I could easily get in but when it happened......

back than I had finally made the decision to go drive when I found out about the license snafu. the answer I was given then as to when can I try again, was come back in a year or so. Unfortunately life got in the way, had a kid, got a job, went to school etc etc. so I didn't go back for many years.

I have driven since then but not on a regular basis. When applying I always put the lost license on the apps and for the whole period it was gone. then give an explanation. Again it was a long time ago now, so it's not a problem for me usually. I did have one co say no way, even for a suspension that was over 10 years old.

I wouldn't say it's impossible but certainly won't be easy. Be very honest about the length of time suspended.

BTW I also keep the receipts for the money I paid to clean it up in an easy to remember spot. Won't do that again.

It's funny now that I think about it, I had lost the license in WI due to unpaid ticket that was paid, and found out about it in FL. I also had FL plates and ins.

In Calif your violation date is when your time starts.. 3 years after your violation date is when it drops off your record....

Except it really doesn't "drop off." The three sheet yes. You get into a serious accident, and I guarantee the DA will pull a sheet that shows every time you've picked your nose in a motor vehicle since you applied for a snot-nosed-kid learners permit.

I agree with HotH2o - go to the DMV and get your abstract to see exactly what it says. Sometimes things don't get posted, or get posted in a way that makes them sound like something else. If there's something on there about the "cancellation," you might contact the DMV in Colorado and explain the situation and see what they can do. I once had a state revoke my driving privileges by mistake, and I got it worked out. I don't remember exactly why, but it was because of some mistake on their part, or because I sent in a fine late like you did or something, but I spoke to them about it and they cleared it up and sent me an official letter explaining that my license was in good standing with them. I kept the letter just in case, and even mentioned the episode to my employer, but it turned out that nothing ever appeared on my abstract. It might be that they did't post it immediately, because they were allowing some time to see if I was going to contest it or correct whatever it was they thought was wrong. In any case, good luck. Shouldn't be something that bars you from trucking for life, but yeah you definitely want to keep a close eye on your license once you get a CDL.

As for the speeding... at least it wasn't in a commercial vehicle. Also, some states will let you take a defensive driving course, either online or in person, and it knocks some points off your license. They limit how often you can do it, but if you have one or two points you're looking to get rid of, it could help, not to mention look good to the kind folks at the insurance companies who decide whether or not you can drive for a particular outfit...

So after getting my driving record and going back and forth with the Colorado DMV it turns out Colorado goes by the violation date and not the date paid. So both of these tickets are over three years old and I double checked to make sure it's not going to be a problem with a few recruiters I'm interested in working for. They said I'm good to go after I get my CDL.

Also I found out that the Colorado DMV does not mail anything to you if you have a PO Box which is why I never got anything from them saying my license was cancelled. The town I use to live in does not have home delivery for USPS so everybody has to have a POBox to get mail. I kept my box because I still use it for business and to get rent checks forwarded to me from my rental. I almost lost it when they told me that because there are dozens of towns in Colorado where people do not have home delivery. So how are people expected to communicate with the DMV when something like this comes up? The guy over the phone at the DMV acted like that's just the way it is and they don't plan on changing anytime soon. Stupid policy.

Anyway that's all done and I'm psyched to start school on the 23 and begin a new career.
