I didn't firget nuttin' ya durned whippersnapper!

It's hard to explain the "good ol' days" to younger people. There is so much available today in terms of tech that we didn't have. They don't have the same frame of reference as we do.

And I thought I WAS the oldest crankiest one---LOL--and BTW--when MY DADDY was in diapers---most goods were transported on a wagon--behind a HORSE!

That's because either all the old timers are taking a nap or forgot this thread exists :biggrin_25513: They are likely all on their cellphones checking the load boards

I guess, since I was trucking before all this technology showed up, that I am not really losing any sleep over the latest news whether the FMCSA will take the NTSB advice and ban even hands free cell phone use in commercial vehicles. Yep, I clearly remember those days of tracking down a pay phone to call dispatch and such. No GPS with satellite view of customer area to get a "feel" of where I was going to pickup or deliver like today. No being able to scan a bill of lading, right from my iPhone, and send it to someone like we have now. Billy Joel's song "Keeping the Faith" said it quite good...

Cause the good ole days weren't
    Always good
And tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems

How far back do you want to visit? I remember trucking when the only two words you needed to know were "GEE" and "HAW" followed by a resounding "GET UP THERE MULE" Then Regan got us on a borax box and everybody wanted to be a celebraty.

Twin sticks, " greasy spoon" joints, new Jersey state cops pointing at you and u pull over.

Trying to buzz the state cop to have the wind take his hat off.

    Just a few ideas.....

Did older trucks have cruise control? How fast did the trucks go? How fast up a hill? How much weight could you pull? I heard engines were 2-stroke? Did you have to mix oil with the fuel? Was it diesel fuel for 2-stroke or gas? Did you have A/C? Did you idle at night in the winter and did the truck stay warm? Were there truck cops like DOT today? Were trucks inspected? Why were there 2 stick shifts?
