Refer to post #38, dated November 18, 2011.
Everything in it is still true, except the truck on the left now has 1.9 million miles on it.
To reiterate. Cab overs have their place. Drivers were abused in them for years, just like the conventionals they were driving during the same time frame.
I have a total of something north of 4 million miles in cabovers, the only trucks I have used as an owner operator in the 43 years in business. I make money with them which is the only reason I buy them.
I believe the original post dealt with the practicality of running an older cabover over the road. No more or less practical than any truck of the same age. Leave the cab over vs conventional bias out of it. -
My thoughts I'd drive a COE and drive long haul with it. Just for the cool factor.
I really do not like the new generation of trucks (at all).shmuck359 Thanks this. -
Hey rank...you ever get your overheating issue squared away? I haven't see nor heard about that since we were trying to brainstorm it back when...rank Thanks this. -
Hey Buddy. No not really. I parked it for the winter and grenaded the diff on the first trip this spring. After I get the diff back in I'm going to check for a plugged muffler.wore out Thanks this.

There is an old Transstar ll running flatbed for CRST l see it often in KY down l65. Looks great and good luck putting an ELog on it!

I dont understand all this talk about bad fuel mileage. A k100e double bunk will get 7 all day long.
There is room in front of the bunk to STAND and get dressed.
Sitting in top of the steering axle and bouncing up when you hit bumps is worst part. Install a set of donnel steering axle air bags, a new ser ot cab shocks and airbags.
Would I want to drive it cross country again. Honestly can't say yes or no. I would if I had to. But I sure would miss my big fridge and 27 inch tvLast edited: May 10, 2019

My good buddy has an ex JB Hunt International 4700 he is restoring. Even painting the frame JB Hunt orange. Should be a great restoration he has a full shop with a crane etc. l would love to have one to just use as a daily driver like an F350.

I would not have a problem running cross country in a cabover, but it would be one of the later STANDUP and put your clothes on rides. I like and don't mind running older trucks, but my nostalgia only goes so far. lol
stayinback and RubyEagle Thank this.
