Make sure you attend an accredited cdl school that trains on manual transmissions.

Dig around try find you a 3rd party tester. Our local DMV is sending people to a guy here cause they are so backed up. Anyways here (small town TN) it's around $500. And plenty companies will train.

Your age is irrelevant. As long as you can pass a DOT medical exam and get at least a 1 year "medical card" you can get a good job driving. Ideally you want to get a 2 year DOT medical card, but 1 year is good enough for most companies.

The health issues for older drivers that commonly interfere with the DOT medical are insulin-dependent diabetes, high blood pressure (over 140/90), UNTREATED sleep apnea.

The best path into the industry is find the company you want to work for and then decide how to get your license. Anyone can learn the CDL skills. The difference between a company that is good for you and the hundreds that are not good for you is the most important choice you will have. Half of trucking companies offer Tuition Reimbursement and EVERY CDL school will find someone to finance school if you need it.

I would warn you under no circumstances consider being anything but a W-2 employee company driver for the firt year or two. Also do not consider CRST or CR England as options. There are others but I've seen almost nothing but bad reports about them, especially CRE.

DOT doctors will try to trick you into revealing things, just to fail you.
    For example:
    "Have you ever smoked?"
    "Yes, but I quit."
"Did you quit cold turkey or use medication to help you?"
"I used Chantix to help me quit."
"You're disqualified, no DOT medical card for you."

    tscottme and rachi Thank this.

    "Do you snore?"
    Yes
"You'll need a sleep study for your sleep apnea."
