Ok got one for ya---your neck o the woods--gone now tho--my Dad gotta outta the service in 46--started runnin for my Grandad soon after--remember him tellin me Charlie T's was already pretty broke in--in his younger days--any idea when it opened? -
Hmmmmmmmm, originally it was about 15 miles north of where it is [was?], on US 1.Was owned by the Tice family, run by the Mother. I remember Dad stopping there back in the late 50's.They opened I-95 back in the late 60's and soon after Charlie T's moved to the location you are referring to,in order to be on the Interstate. Was torn down about 7 years ago, nothing there now. The 'T' in Charlie T's stood for Tice. Those were real truckstops.

I was thinkin of the original location--figured you would remember it--and 95 late 60's?--You mean that stretch right? LOL
I seem to remember gettin off on 17--between the modern scale and bughouse today--and runnin to Brunswick till my hair turned grey--and lets not discuss--richmond Hill to Hardeville--or fayetenam! LOL
Thanks for answering!Joetro Thanks this. -
Yeah, I learned to truck on 17 going north through Brunswick, Midway, Hardeeville, Society Hill, etc.,on to the ferry at Norfolk, cross over to Eastern Shore, stay on 13 through Delaware to Jersey Turnpike. They were just building Interstate system.
Same thing going south in Florida. I-95 was pieced together as far south as Vero Beach when I bought my first truck in 1973. Get off on 2 lane there, run down to Turnpike, get on and proceed down to Miami. As they were building the Interstate, you would run a while on it, then jump off and run 2 lane for a while until Interstate built. But the traffic kept moving pretty good.
I started trucking when I was 20, learned to drive on those 2 lanes. But it seemed like we made just as good time as we do now on the big road.Joetro, landstar8891 and ‘Olhand Thank this. -
