Hi everyone,
My company using omnitracs for Elog. I have multiple time issue when omnitracs converts on duty or off duty time to drive time as soon as truck moves 1200 metres.
Omnitracs drive time starts as soon as you move (even to check brakes) and stops after 5 minutes of complete stop.
So If I keep moving in less than 5 minutes then after 1200 metres distance coverage all time from first move, convert into drive time Automatically and change status to drive.
Preinspection, yard move and moving after loading or unloading if I keep moving (once tandem stuck and I forget to stop for 5 minutes) all time will convert to drive time.
These all factors reduce drive time. Omnitracs is not helping on these issues, instead they are asking for more money to update frequently data collection.
Hope some one here gives some helpful advice.
Regards

Keeping it under 5mph is the only thing you can do really
-
But even I move to check trailer pin hook still drive time starts.
I think ELD rule is, drive time should start after 1 mile moving above 5mph and should be considered stop after 30 seconds of no moving.
While Omnitracs rule looks to me as
Drive time starts as soon as some movement detected and drive time stop after 5 minutes of complete stop. Any movement (not driving) within 5 minutes minutes keep your drive time continuous and after 1200 metres covered all time from first moving convert to drive time.
This way, I am losing sometime more then 1 hour drive time in 14 HOS.

You are correct in that if you:
a) begin to move but stay under X miles per hour that the Omnitracs will begin a 5 minute timer in its logic. As long as you stay under X MPH then it will not put you in drive status "permanently" yet.
b) BUT, if you go over X MPH even for a second before being either dead-stopped for at least 5 minutes, OR you cycle the power of your ignition (turn off, count to 5 and then start it again) the Omnitracs WILL go back and REVERT all of the time since when you started, even the "under X MPH time," as line 3 Driving hours.
Let me give an illustration (related to what I think you are saying) of that last point I just stated in paragraph "b"
1 - you are OFF DUTY status and you start the truck.
2 - you move the truck UNDER X MPH for 5 minutes around the yard or whatever. (it will begin its 5 minute rolling timer logic) and show your status now as DRIVING (temporarily, not written in stone yet.)
3 - then you STOP the truck and leave the motor running. You get out and do anything for 4 minutes. (but you WEREN'T stopped for 5 minutes.)
4 - you get back in the truck and start rolling again but now you GO OVER X MPH. At this point it will go back and COUNT ALL 9 minutes as DRIVING line.
5 - but if you SAT STILL for 5 minutes or cycled the ignition of the truck t step 3 here, it will "forget" that you were moving around under X MPH up in step 2 here. It will COUNT THAT TIME as whatever status you were previously in. If you were in sleeper, then it's 10 more minutes of SLEEPER. If you were in ON-Duty, Not Driving, then it is 10 more minutes of that (even though you moved the truck for 5 minutes at under X MPH in step 2)
So, in both modes, the movement is not counted "permanently" as DRIVE line until you go over X MPH, and it will consider any time in the last 5 minutes in which you were moving under X MPH as drive time too once you cross that speed threshold. Unless you stop for 5 minutes or cycle the ignition.
There is one thing you said too though. If you are in AOBRD mode, the you or whoever the Admin is can set a distance limit that follows the same rules as I explained above. So, 1600 meters is one mile. Some people in AOBRD mode do set a one mile or two mile max distance at which the truck can move any any speed before it triggers DRIVE line permanently. But once again, if your AOBRD distance limit is 1 mile and you move .8 miles and then either stop the truck for 5 minutes or cycle the power, then it too will "forget" that you moved. (that will go away in ELD mode.)
Hope that helped. I believe that most or all brands use similar logic in ELD mode, but there still may be some who don't. I don't know them all and the logic I just explained could change with a software revision at any time based on FMCSA "clarifications." -
Boss pretty much nailed it.
there are 3 things that must be met under AOBRD and Omnitracs to show movement.
I will give the max #s
2 miles
25 MPH
5 min
if ANY of those rules are broken, it will go into drive mode.
Keep in mind, this is a company set number(s).
It could be from 1 mile to 2
from 0-25 mph
1 min to 5 min.
If you are on ELD mode, all bets off.
There is a little leeway between autoshifts and manuals, but not much.
I have seen where the auto shift move to driving instantly where the manuals go under 5 mph and they can move across the lot. It also depends on if the ECM is reporting the parking brake status.
If you want to know what sensors your ECM is sending and the MCP/IVG unit is picking up.
Click on System
then the VDS tab (may have to click on LOAD VDS)
On the bottom left of the screen, the 2nd icon from the left, there is an Excel looking icon, click on that.
Anything in green, it is picking up. blacked out, not available and red is not working. If you have red ones, get that to a Service Center.Dieselboss Thanks this.
