It says that my last post was "one week ago", but I know it must have been longer than that, based on what I posted about... At any rate, school is progressing--I can't believe how much info they've managed to stuff into my tic-tac-sized brain in the last 5 weeks! I've had a lot of stresses and successes along the way, but now that I've finally learned how to 'let it go" when I make mistakes, I'm consistently doing better! To think I'll be graduating in a little over two weeks is rather daunting! I've had only two "pre-hires" thus far, though with that one speeding ticket for 25 over I had two years ago, I'm grateful for what I've gotten! (I'll start a separate thread about that) Just wanted you all to know I'm still alive and well and hoping to be heading down the road really soon!
You're lucky that the program allows you as much practice as it does. I went through c1 and we got 2 weeks to learn to drive and back. I don't know how many times I caught myself saying holy ##### I'm not ready to do that. We were on the road in traffic on our second day of driving. On day three we were in town and then entering and exiting the interstate. It's good that you get the chance to be better prepared and not shoved through it. Good luck.
Thanks RD...Yeah I know I'm fortunate to be at the school I am, and going through the WIA program, which insists on the 240 hour program (their whole intent is to make us as hire-able as possible), though maybe it's because I'm a moron, that I feel like it's all gone by too quickly! I hope I'll be ready week after next!
Wow, it has been a while since I posted here (in this thread at least) Well for my schooling, when I first tested on the 2nd, I blew em away on PTI, (passed) only pulled 3 points on Skills (passed--straight back was a bit wiggly) and failed the road test (D/S 6-5 and forgot the splitter--auto failed when I stopped to reset) Failed again the next week for grinding and losing a gear and stopping in an intersection...(who the heck can't shift into third? I think my RPMs were too high--that's what it sounded like, and instead of correcting it, I just stopped) But with confidence high today (and a heck of a lot of work on my shifting this week) despite it being my first time driving in the rain, I PASSED! I'll be picking up my actual CDL tomorrow, my diploma/certificate or whatever on Tuesday, and a week from tomorrow, I'll be on the big dog heading down to Dallas (Mesquite, actually) for Stevens!
Congrats, and welcome to Stevens. Believe it or not, the yars is a few feet inside the Dallas City Limit... so Dallas is correct!
Oh, ok...I thought so, but the recruiter "corrected" me so I didn't want to give false info--which I ended up doing anyways! Thanks!
When I say a few feet, I mean a few feet. The sign is on the corner just outside the fence LOL... The big grey dog is going to drop you in Mesquite though, closer. Good luck!
Been a long week here at Stevens...Had a little difficulty with the "whisper test" so, even though I passed my Essential Job Skills test afterwards, they still want me to have an audiogram (test with headphones) Once I clear med hold, I only need one more day of skills and my road test so wit any luck, I'll get dispatched out of here Friday morning! Actually, I'm gonna bring all my stuff with tomorrow, just in case I get done quickly and have the opportunity to dispatch out tomorrow... Randell is...unusual.
Congrats on passing the test man! Been a long road but your finally getting there! So Friday is D-day huh? Good luck to you and drive safe man...
