hello everyone. first off, let me say thanks for the feedback. I was wondering if this topic would get any traction at all.
I talked to my recruiter today, (she hasn't promised me the world or anything remotely close to it) and Im all set to book a gig at the school. I am not yet scheduled because Im waiting on a second set of eyeglasses to get delivered from a place I found online. I also went to CVS to get a DOT physical because its been such a long time since I've had a card, and didnt want any surprises. well, surprise! it turns out my blood pressure is high. So high in fact that I can only get a 3 month card. I'm not sure that CRE or any company would like that, So Ive made another appointment with my family doc to get a scrip for handling that. on top of that Im getting a letter from my doc stating that even though I have depression and take pristiq with abilify, my ability to handle this job is not affected.
Having to wait for my glasses is a bit of a blessing because it gives me time to handle all the things that I have to do so I dont end up going to school right away only to get sent home, and it also allows me time to research more and study more and possibly find a better opportunity.
one more thing, cranky ### lets try not to be so cranky, at least not on this thread. I don't want a flaming thread, I'd prefer a serious one. money is involved after all. if you have anything constructive to add, please do, if not, then please dont. I have by the way read many of the negatives thing people have to say about cre, and if those people appeared worth taking seriously, perhaps I'd heed their warnings a bit more. My mind isn't entirely made up, but so far Im leaning on believing the people who can put together a sentence. Im a maverick like that.
On the way to CRE,......probably

Good luck, Dylan. Keep us posted.

Before you get too committed with CRE... give Conway Truckload a call. Speak with Keturah in recruiting. See if she's interested and willing to work with you. Conway is "miles ahead" of CRE in just about every respect.

constructive? dude I was trying to save you some pain... hey do what you want.... as far as depression and letting them know about your high blood pressure, here this is constructive ...... if you want a driving job there is no polygraph exam, don't tell them you take medications for depression... your a sure kick out of the program.... also you can go to your doctor to get a medication that will temporarily lower your blood pressure for the physical.....
your a maverick? lmao.... also I have no problem putting a sentence together...
by all means do what you want, go to CRE, let them know you have depression and high blood pressure and see how long you stay at their school.... hell maybe they will take your money let you complete the program so your indebted to them, and then kick you out, but by all means be the MAVERICK..... -
dyaln befor you do any thing check out company dacs on this forum some good info there.i'am not an expert or a driver yet but i have been resurching schools and comanys for quite a while i would strongly sugest you think twice about cre i have friends and family that are truck drivers and have gotten alot of good info from them that i can trust. about dot phisical dont think that a cvs physical is going to be a good indicater about the companys dot doc some companys require more srict guidlines than dot does if your not sure about anything medical call the companys clinic for wich you are applying dont count on what the recruter says some time its hard to get through and be prepaird to be put on long holds but its better than getting sent home that wont help your deppresion at all i know it happend to me. i have type 2 diabetes and i thought i was ok for dot physical but faild and got sent home. that was about 6 weeks ago at cr1 driver solutions in fort worth tx and would have drove for pam transport. i was devistated since this is realy what i whant to do i'am devorced singel kids grown have nothing to my name after the big D and whant to make a change in my life shot down like a scudd missel is what i thought.but i dident give up.i'am 49 yrs old and hate what i do for a liveing auto body tech done it all my life and hate it.but things do happen for a reason after being sent home i found a new docter that speacializes in diabetes she got me on the rite track and im now ready to pass the dot phys.a few weeks after i was sent home a student i met at cr1 called me and gave me the low down she said dont come back here they push you through drivers traning like cattel and send people to dps to test that diden even know or have ever been tought to do the basic skills such as parralel park and backing alot faild and were sent home and still owe 6000 for thier so called traning the one that did pass have to wait weeks on a trainer at home no pay wich is what shes doing now. i'am set to go to dallas this sat for stevens transport thier school is top notch and from what i've heard a pretty good starter company. they will pay your transportation to school, bus or plane and pay your way home if you get sent home for some reason or another.while at school they will give you $70 a week for food and put you up in a hotel kinda crapy i hear but its only temperary training is about 3 weeks and they realy work your butt off training some days may be 12 to 14 hrs long.once training is done and you get your cdl the send you strait out with a trainer for about 5 weeks you have to drive many zones and mountans east and west. after that you go back to dallas for 2to3 days of orintation then back out with a finish trainer for i think one week to see if you know what your doing and can handel the job then it's back to dallas where your asinged your on truck a newer mdl kenworth that you will be liveing and working in for the next several months.over the road trucker means over the road not over at the house so be prepaird thats the way it is very little home time. oh ya onc you get your cdl at school stevens will pay you $350 a week every week untill you get your own truck then it's real world time @26 cents a mile you can check all this out your self by using this forum go to search then type stevens and check out what other students and drivers have to say.stevens will push you to do thier alliance leese program my advice is don't most negativity i've found on stevens is about the lease program but thats up to you will also find negativeity on any company but out of all i investigated stevens had the least.hope this helps good luck

hey joplin, thanks I'll do that tomorrow. Ill look up stevens as well. and I did call the clinic at cre.
i dont want to falsify federal documents which is what you are doing if you lie on a dot physical. right? signing that card is swearing to its validity, isn't it? my integrity is more important than a job. why isnt yours, cranky? Obviously, the maverick bit was a joke, I don't think it's the maverick that listens to people that make sense. It wasn't about you either, you seem to make a bit of sense. What I meant was that alot of the nay sayers seem more like whiners, and write like the fools that they are. and when you get into their stories beyond the surface complaints they nearly always were in the wrong. that isnt just about this company. hell it isnt even just about this forum. its about people feeling entitled to getting thier way. I love how people complain about not getting a ticket home after failing a drug test. yeah buddy drinking vinegar doesn't clean the dope out of your hair, for example. these companies can save the cash and just say "we start training on monday, see ya there." Im not some cre supporter by any means. I dont want to get on a bus to texas, just to get sent home. thats my motivation, I want to drive.
I do have a CDL and have had for 12 years. it just happens to be a class B. which counts for #### with otr companies. I got it through brundage bone originally.
I went to the dmv, passed the written test and airbrakes, drove with a "trainer" who had been with them for all of 3 months, and drove like he pumped concrete. unsafe and awkwardly. I took my practical exam, which I had to pay for. thats part of being the low guy on the totem pole. you gotta pay your dues. sometimes literally, sometime figuratively. -
Does Stevens have a training program for inexperienced drivers?
Yes, we have a training facility located in Dallas, Texas complete with classrooms, driving tracks and specialized equipment. We also have several training partners located throughout the U.S..
How much will training cost me?
The cost of your training-- whether it be at Stevens Driving Academy or elsewhere-- will be fully reimbursed by Stevens if you stay on the road with Stevens for one full year. We also provide 100% financing for our students so there is no up-front cost to you.
How long is the orientation program?
Orientation runs from Sunday to Thursday each week.
Is there housing available if I am going through the Dallas driving school?
Low-cost housing is available with no-interest financing, if needed.
Are my meals paid for by Stevens while I am attending the Stevens Driving Academy?
Payment for meals is the students' responsibility. If needed, Stevens will provide a no-interest loan of $70 per week to cover cost of meals.
How do I get to the Stevens Driving Academy?
If you do not provide your own transportation, we'll send you a bus ticket to get you to Dallas, Texas. We'll also finance the cost of that ticket.
Do I get paid while I am training?
No, you do not get paid while training to earn your commercial drivers license (CDL) . However, once you have received your CDL, Stevens will pay you $350 per week for up to 8 weeks while you gain Over-the-Road experience with a Stevens certified trainer. During that time, you can earn up to an additional $100 per week if you choose to help load and unload the trailers.venne Thanks this. -
conway wanted me to come up with 2k upfront for schooling, before even discussing requirements or qualifications. since im on a roll with finding out info and this page is open, ill post anything else i find out.
-
Hey everyone, I looked into Roehl also today. talked to Laura. they sound great. dont need to come up with 2k upfront like conway, still 585 for hotel and testing. not too shabby. they will finance the rest of their 3300 fees as long as you can get a cosigner or have a 500 credit score. not too tough right? but you also have to get yourself there o your own.they have primarily solo drivers company and otherwise.
get this, you HAVE to drive 60k with them before they'll even consider offering you a lease. good stuff eh? -
It would be a lot better for the driver if they HAD to log 120,000 or even 250,000 miles before a lease was offered. But yes 60K is a good deal for the company.
