As far as miles and pay. I think a lot of it depends on what you are willing to do and how much you want to run. The miles are there if you want them. I think a lot of people are not taking preplans for their own reasons and aren't making money. Of course, the ones complaining won't give you all the information on 'why' they don't get miles or pay. I've heard both sides from many drivers since signing up here and it all boils down to what you do and don't do, where you'll run, if you stay out, who your DM is, etc.
Once training is done - how long before getting a truck?

Dude. I suggest you quit talking crap about my husband right NOW! They throw so much crap at them it's ridiculous. NO, they didn't tell him cpm. They didn't tell anyone other than the newbs.
They didn't mention anything about only using the terminal kiosk for direct deposit info. All they said was go to swiftdrivers.com and you can set everything up that way.
So, before you start crap saying my husband didn't take any notes maybe you should take it up with those that did orientation and gave, or didn't give, information that was needed.
Again, the recruiter told him he should make .40/mile with his experience. So if they try to start him out at a quarter a mile I'm pretty sure somebody will be hearing about it. He is NOT a student so he shouldn't be paid like one. -
As far as inverters...they only mentioned the hardwired ones not the smaller incab ones.
-
The plug-in inverters are fine, I even use one that has 3 outlets but only use it for sirius and gps. Cooler is plugged in to another place, and I use the one by the bunk with another plug in inverter for my computer.
Any of the Swift University classes can be taken online. It is just the stuff that deals with the personal info that can only be done on the kiosk.
I doubt that he will start at 40 cpm, more likely around 36 or 37.UGA79 Thanks this. -
Is loving it.. You'll make a GREAT trucker wife with that attitude..
Best of luck, Super Trucker Wife !!

Azhammer - I don't know what to think of you, lol. I've been a trucker, o/o & team driver with my husband, and been a truckers wife. I've got very specific info I'd like answers for and hate not knowing. Especially when the company is the one that didn't give the info in the first place.
Oh well. Training started this evening and will continue for about 2 weeks. Gotta get his comdata card activated by the company, get cash advance, and make it by a kiosk this week. -
I'm at 5 years experience right now, and my pay rate is 38cpm. That is base pay. I'm sure the recruiter is telling him east pay, which is 2cpm higher. That's what the recruiter told me when I signed on, then when I went out west, I called payroll to find out why my pay dropped, and the very nice lady in the payroll office explained east/west pay to me.
Or maybe I'm wrong, and the recruiter is honest and straightforward and he'll be paid 40cpm.
Swift does base pay on accumulated experience, though, so he ought not to start at student pay.UGA79 Thanks this. -
Thank you 1nonly.

Also look in the employee manual. Anything they didn't give you in orientation should be in there. Sift through the crap to find what you need. On line I believe the manual is so you could read it too. Everything azhammer said was in orientation that I went through. They even took us to the kiosk to set everything up. I waited a week for a truck by choice. In the menesha they pretty much put you in atruck right away. Don't expect miracles right away. He might have previous experience but he is new. I just moved up a level so preplans are a little better and I am on a dedicated route but am treated like a otr gut right now. He will be on the bottom. If there are 20 preplans and 30 drivers it will go to the higher rated or mentors ect before your husband. As bad as that sucks it is the way. No one is special here. Wish you and your husband luck. I have seen a guy at a terminal with 15 years at swift lose a preplan to a 3 month solo guy because of ranking. And expect you husband to have downtime for training which they don't pay for. My dm understood this and when he sent me for service or training he had me under a load. If your under a load things happen quicker at terminals especially if it delivers soon. Enough from me just trying to help if I did
