Go UPS. Pension, health care. First year typically sucks. 2 years in make a 100k. Do seasonal in november. Jersey is hiring full time 8 months ago its all what area you are in. Work nights for 20 years. I do tankers make good money. Old Dominion is a good line haul company too home every night

Anybody that has been around dynamite knows that it has a shelf life and as it gets older the nitro in it becomes less and less stable. This thread is reminding me of an incident a friend of mine got into up on Ga 53 between Dawsonville and Tate Georgia. This friend was contracted to haul some old but still usable dynamite from a construction business in Gainesville Georgia to another in Cartersville. A state DOT cop stopped his truck on somewhat of a dangerous curve. This cop then started to do an inspection. My friend got all his legals and permits. Got his CDL and medical card out handed it all to the officer and told him he was in a dangerous curve hauling old dynamite. It only took that cop about 2 minutes to finish up the stop and sent my friend on his way. Specialty hauling can be very profitable. It can also be funny at times.

    Hello Jazzy_J.
You will get all kinds of suggestions. To learn the truth as much as possible, talk with many drivers. Some will give you fairy tales and lead you into disappointment. Others will give practical advice. Be careful and wise. jdspain1950@yahoo.com.
I would never try to harm. My goal is to help.

Took me 3 years, and 6 different companies (3 of which were complete mistakes) one time to almost lose my house (chasing the big money) to finally settle down with a company that I love and averaging just over $7000 A month hauling oversize with a specialized company.

Might I suggest not making my mistakes.

After 6 months the big bucks just fall into your wallet. Fat stacks.

Talk to people and network, you can get other jobs too that aren’t trucking that require a class a and pay a hell of a lot more.

That’s what I’m trying to do at least.

From what I've been seeing at least a year but preferably 2 for the better jobs. You did mention great paying specialties also look into ltl line haul and tankers.

That is what I did. I retired from trucking in Dec 2012 with the intent to be hired by a medium size carrier in safety. I was getting ready to do this when I noticed some health issues that later become the bad news of epilepsy and I had to give it all up.

I finally gross 100k as a company driver. I seriously doubt any company driver will net 100k (they take out 40 percent in taxes from me so I would have to gross over 140 to net 100)

To answer your question though ltl or food service but in the right market/company
