IF that is what keeps you awake at night, you might want to move out of wherever you are living.
There are two things with trucking, both hands on the wheel always, and the thumbs, fingers and wrists are to stay out side of the wheel itself. You could hit something at a angle sufficient to force the steering to rotate on you and possibly break and or sprain whatever is in the spokes inside wheel rim.
I have a certain way of managing a wheel but essentially both hands on the wheel always where possible.
I thought about not posting in reply here. It's so far from the possibilities of Nanny States now that people are talking about this? What's next chips inside the steering wheel to monitor you for a percentage of compliance of both hands on? If that is where we are going I don't want any part of it.
There are systems coming into the Lab capable of being controlled by human thought, provided that the computer has had a chance to look at your own patterns to decide what you want to do, straight? Left? Right etc. I don't think any of those systems will have a human in the rig. It's more towards having AI controlled trucks with no humans at all on, near or in them unless they demand fuel, chains or loading, unloading.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I only have one hand on the wheel...80 percent of the time...

When I drive with both hands on the wheel I start to go left or right. For me its more relaxing with one hand on the wheel.swervyjoe Thanks this.

These companies are getting sooo rediculous. When i started in ltl all they wanted was the freight delivered and picked up without hitting anything. Focus was on revenue and keeping customers happy. As long as you got your freight delivered and pickups made you were gold. Then they got larger and the micro managing started. Hiring managers with logistics degree who never drove a truck and everything went to sh###. I got so fed up i went and bought my own numbers and equipment and said goodbye to all that bs. I dont think i would last a month being hired on to a trucking company now. Cant teach an old dog new tricks, especially when the old dog doesnt want to comply.

Easier to wear a sombrero with an extremely wide brim. Another way is to use a fake arm from a mannequin and use that on the steering wheel.Grubby, swervyjoe, AModelCat and 1 other person Thank this.

So your mechanic can work on the steering system and remount the spline with the wheel permanently a half turn off, just to mess with you.

In my car, took the steering wheel off and mounted a Vespa handlebar.
