I mean this in a serious way, but not a mean or degrading way...
If you have literally 0 confidence in your backing skills, and worry profusely about many backing situations....
then how confident should anyone be about your "on road" forward driving skills? Are you even sure that's alright?

I cant count the number of times some one asked me for help, I will always help a driver, Why would any driver refuse to help a fellow driver, especially a rookie driver, For the more experience drivers, try and remember when you where first learning to drive, and back up these trucks, I'll bet you were a little grateful for some help

I did all those big cities in my first year...while over the road. Roehl has a terminal in Gary. No, I wasn't overly fond of it, but it comes with the job.

Nice and easy, along with asking people ALWAYS worked.

YOU took the job in the "windy city", deal with or or find another one. Heck go otr, we never have to back up.

Are you looking for help or playing?

At first I figured you were in your first month of OTR. I see you've been at this almost a year. With the amount of backing you say you do daily you should be on par with over the road drivers who have been at this for years. Maybe straight truck would suit you better.

True, you didn't "say" you had 0 confidence, but that's what clearly ooozed out all over from reading your original post.
And I can still tell, just in the way you say... "cant do much now being company tho".
That clearly shows you're hoping to be an O/O, just so you can take only the loads that go to picture-perfect docks, instead of the right approach, which is to become a confident skilled driver (backing, turns, merging, everything), whether you are an O/O, leasee, or pure company driver.

Don't "compromise" learning to be a great skilled trucker by thinking you can stay at the 50% skill level by being an O/O, and have the ability to then refuse loads/docks. You say you've been driving for 10 months & backing on a frequent basis. Your skill level should be much better by now. Is truck driving what YOU want to do, and not just your father's push toward?

BTW, most O/O don't even acquire their truck or authority UNTIL they've been a fully capable & skilled driver first.

Thanks pattyj for the nice words. I look at it like this, I signing up to deliver loads on time, drive safe, drive slow, challange myself to drive the big boy toys, and have fun while traveling the country while doing this. I'm not looking at the negatives, not saying their won't be bad days or challenging days. I plan on driving a truck, not cause I need a paycheck, its because I want to drive. Theres always someonewho is worse off then you, so I stay grateful. Be safe out there guys and gals.

Im always helping someone and actually feel flattered when they ask me.I drive local for kb transportation but either Stevens or Transam ask for help or I just walk over to them and offer my assistance..Most the time its backing.
