Woke up this morning at the Iowa 80 to freezing fog. Had a 6 hour drive to Sioux Falls so decided to wait it out. I didn’t need any delays because I need to unload tomorrow morning, drive 45 minutes, load and head to Texas for a 8:00 Wednesday morning crane appointment. I had 11 hours left on my cycle minus 6 hours today leaving me 5 hours to unload, load and get 3 hours down the road. Tuesday I recap 8 hours so I can make it but it will be tight. After the weather cleared I hit the road. Made it 20 miles and I-80 was closed. 9 semi 6 car accident caused by ice from the fog. Unfortunately at least 2 fatalities. It was some of the worst wreckage I’ve seen. Lost an hour but still can make it. Get to Altoona and in my mirror I see a car passing but it almost hit me then went about 3 feet off the road to left. As soon as it got passed me it merged back into the right lane and continued through 50’ of guardrail. I thought for sure I’d get a flat driving through the debris. That took another 30 minutes. Here’s the kicker. I’m jumping through hoops to get my job done because some bureaucrats think they have the answers and I almost get taken out by a nurse that fell asleep on her way into work because they have them on 16 hour shifts.
One of those days

Good food in the truck, a little entertainment, and a REALLY comfortable mattress. Sometimes you can't sleep, but you can usually rest up. We need to be as sharp as possible if we want to drive past the highway crap.
I did years of light / medium wrecker stuff and there will be no more standing around on an active highway for me.Another Canadian driver, Siinman and Concorde Thank this. -
Well, I got shut down on I-80 for 18 hours (closed interstate) missing my gravy money delivery and the next great money pickup.
Currently stopped in Fort Bridger, WY waiting on a rescheduled appointment.
Nonetheless, I’ll take my problems over yoursOld mark, Another Canadian driver and Siinman Thank this. -
