One side axle brakes catching fire

    No you can adjust them. If they fail to stay adjusted they are faulty. I suppose in theory over adjusting could lead to premature wear on the adjuster teeth and locks. This is also assuming you know how to adjust the type of slacks you have.

    I adjust mine at least every couple weeks. Decades old habit. My slack adjusters have the button on the side to allow the free spin of the adjuster.

    I have the certification. But I don't worry about it.

    All dot cares about is are your brakes adjusted properly. They have no clue if they work or that you just adjusted 30 minutes prior.

    Guy I know got put OOS for 2 brakes out of adjustment. Had manual slacks. Told the cop he would adjust them himself and they wanted to see the card from his company saying he'd been trained and was allowed to adjust them. He did have the card.

    I remember a lot of smaller companies doing their drivers for just that reason
