You used to make a lot better rates on opentop, but I think we are competing with the vans to see how low we can go.Besides you would miss all the fun of tarping in all kinds of weather

There was a local guy in denver that made them. He isn't around anymore though. Heck, if you google kevlar tarps I am sure you can come up with something.

I run 4' drops and I have a set of 4' extensions that make up the difference when necessary.

I have used the extensions once in two years since I got them...

    I have a set of 8'...
    Set of 4'.....
    A smoke tarp....

Lumber loads when tarping is required, 99.99% of the time, must be tarped with 8's.....

Just like pipe stakes.....Going out and buying 2" OD G.I.P. and crushing an end to make it fit in the stake pockets, will get you turned away from pipe yards....

Load requirements are usually outlined on the load agreement......

    Krash13ss,

Hwo many tarps do you use to tarp top and bottom decks?
Im buying a Doonan with an 8' neck and 40' lower deck with a full set of twist locks in it. Its getting the ramp/load leveler storage built on it right now.
I mostly do end dump work and a little bit of flatbed all within 40 miles from home but I figured a very versatile step would be a good way to go as we do a lot of work for equipment guys etc and when work gets slow cause its raining I could hit the road to keep the wheels turning.

Guess my big question is what size tarp do I need, 10' drops like you said for the step and 8 for the neck? Would 3 tarps be ideal, one for the neck and 2 for the lower deck if I had a full length load, how long should each be if so?

I dont really do regular frieght and have no idea what to expect but want to be reasonably prepaired for whatever comes if I end up 500 miles from home with not much choice in loads.

The Kevlar tarps that shooter19802003 was talking about seemed like a good idea. When you say d rings do you mean grommets?

    Cheers.
