It takes two in three years to get the 60 day suspension.

Well there you go lesson learned -- get lawyer as soon as you get a ticket --dont tell anyone and hope it works out. Shows you what being honest will get you, and since now you know the results why bother.

I go down the Cajon Pass with the 45 mph truck speed limit many times, maintaining 45 mph or less as the load demands, and trucks are often blowing by me well over 60 mph (which in itself is over the 55 mph speed limit). Any trucker that considers they are "saving time" by blowing down hills needs to heed the experience of the OP. Last time I went down Cajon one of those super truckers blew by me and got nailed, and I'm sure it will be an expensive lesson for him.

My CDL is my most valuable possession, and I protect it. Use the appropriate gear and the jake to hold your downhill speed within the legal limit.

Yes, but how would the LEO (who told him to report it immediately) know what CRE's reporting policies are?

A lot of fail in this thread. You never report a violation to an employer until conviction unless there is an inspection to go with it. It takes two major violations in three years to get a 60 day suspension. The driver needs to get it knocked down to 14 mph or under if he wants to work for anyone decent in the next three years. A 15 over is not a reckless driving ticket, that is a separate charge itself, and only a few states require for a fixed speed over the limit, and PA isn't one of them.

First off, see if you can get it reduced. 5 over is a lot better then 16 over. Was he going more then 16 over and it was ticketed at 16, or was he only going 16? Sometimes, depending on state, the ticket will say 16 over cited at 5 over. The ticket is for 5 over and thats all new companies would see if they pulled the record. So make sure you know what it ts CITED at. Also give these guys a call. http://www.roadlaw.net/ Its free to talk to them and they may have better advice then your cdl protector does. They have data from previous cases in many jurisdictions to tell you your odds up front.
