Are you still with Werner? I take my CDL test today and am set on starting orientation with them later this month. I don't really care about home time and want to get as many miles I can get. The owner of the driving school I'm going to says they are a good company that pays his graduates well. I'm thinking as long as I keep the wheels rolling, stay on time, and take all the work they can give me I should do well.

I'll be at the Indianapolis terminal and have a few questions:
What is the starting base rate after training?
Are there any pay increases during the first year?
How much are the bonuses and should I expect to get them?

Starting rates is based on what you do... Northeast regional is the best paid non account place and you start at 30cpm I was supposed to get a raise after 6months haven't seen it yet, bonuses are just part of the paycheck nothing special... I go home everytime I hit the $3k mark usually once a month for 3 to 4days

Once i finish training im going to try to run out of the northeast region since i live in that area. They ask me to do family dollar but after the horror stories i hear from every driver i ran into. i change my mind.

Yea i still have awhile before i choose family dollar or regional. But otr with my trainer is pretty laid back as far as work is. it just sucks that we get alot of live loads and unloads. their quadcomms for keeping track of hours and what u get back after midnight takes alot of stress and headache off new commers who cant keep track of there hours.

I also spoke with lamar the recruiter tuesday and he isn't the brightest bulb on the tree. He also offred the family dollar account and said it was a store unload. I know that couldn't be further from the truth. He also took my entire app over the phone and had to repeat myself several times on each employer. He seemed totally preoccupied while i was talking with him. I have been driving the northeast since 2001 and ran auto hauler for the vast majority of it and still insisted I go out with someone on that account for two weeks. No thanks! I'm pretty sure i can handle a three or four stop load all by my lonesome. The train of thought as far as werner is concerned, Pay as little as possible for two weeks and then turn ya loose. Do that to fifty expierenced drivers each week and your saving a ###### ton of money. I'll pass on the werner expierence. No hard feelings Big blue, but I'll pass.

from what i was told, it alot of work for lil pay. I would told you will average about 650-950 a week. You have to unload your whole trailer (53ft i think). For being paid 20 buck a stop isnt worth it. It good if u want alot of home time but i do advise to wear a back brace. I havent done the account yet but i was going to give it a shot after i finish training. Like Ruckie said start here and either go O/O or become a trainer to survive here or leave and go somewhere else after a year. If you hava a strong back and love to work then i say give it a shot. If you dont like it. switch accounts.

I'm not sure but I think it is largely up to the DC you will work out of. I went out a total of 1 day with a mentor then on my own. Did he mention the mentor-ship pay is 135 a day? As for me I love the physical aspect and the health benefits. I'm 61, blood pressure is down to 106/67, I've dropped 35 pounds since Feb and My waist has gone from 40 to 35. Cheaper than a gym membership and better results, heh?
