I'm a Life Member of the OOIDA, I don't understand why drivers do not like them and cry about them not doing this or that for them, this is an organization that is sticking up for drivers as a whole, they are not in the business of holding individual hands and taking care of all there wants and wishes. This is the only group that is sticking up for the so called little man. There are more drivers with small mom and pop and O/O'S combined then all the Mega's out here. As the saying goes, in number's there is strength. If OOIDA'S membership grew they could fight the Mega's and special interest more easily, but it seems that drivers are more interested in fighting amongst them selves or are afraid to take a stand. I'm not afraid to take a stand and that's why I joined, and yes, I do call my Congressmen and Senator. I've joined the NRA years ago to take a stand for 2nd Amendment rights, and I joined the OOIDA to stick up for my rights as a driver, it's cheap, and by the way, I'm not an owner operator.

Most accidents I've been seeing are those elog trucks. You call that safe whenever you run out driving time and get stuck on the shoulder during winter storm? They think they save trees like this. We will be wasting more trees for monthly subscription and paying monthly for program.

While myself has been on E logs for a few years now I personally don't really have an issue with it but I am in agreement with many of you that the government needs to just stay out of it and quit shoving more regulations down our throats... I personally think that it should be up to the each individual owner of the truck to decide what is best for their business because the government has no business in deciding what's best for everybody else.

It's like the mandatory 30-minute break... If the driver is not smart enough to know when they should stop to take a break if they need one they shouldn't be driving. Some of these regulations are absolutely the most asinine thing I've ever seen in all my life

For what they charge it's well worth it for at least making a legal argument. Problem with passing the elog law is that they will not stop there. They must be stopped.

Power comes from numbers. Join OOIDA just for that fact alone.

    Example

Three safety groups only comprise of about 3 million "members"
Public Citizen claims about 3 million.
PATT or parents against tired truckers claims about 1.5 million
CRASH or Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways claims about 1.5 million.

Why is this of any concern, well simple... Three groups can state they represent almost 6 million "members".
truth is it is the same people as "members" in all three of the groups, but it sure sounds good to say these three groups have 6 million members. that's a number that gets attention. Hey a potential voter here. Plus they have time and money to push their cause.

OOIDA has about 200,000 members. Not a lot of power behind that number.

Want to make a change, it takes numbers. People, time and yes money.
Think about this for a moment.

According to the US labor department:
There are approximately 12 million CDLs issued (2014)
Approximately 3.7 million are on road drivers.

IF all of these people are members of OOIDA, the number gets attention.
Want to stop or change a rule, regulation or law. Here is an easy way to do so.
Cost you 25 dollars and a few minutes now and then.

Now quit your ranting and belly aching about how your getting jacked by the government, step up, do something about it. then you can beeeach at the ones who are not helping.

Its all about the money. How much do you think Qualcomm and other elog manufactures stand to make. Big fleets like it because they know some o/ops will quit and they can say might as well drive for Suck Butt Inc. Everyone has to have elogs and governed trucks anyways. So you might as well drive our new fleet truck. I wonder what will be next power kills and all trucks can not be over 450hp. Plus the government likes to make rules for lowest common denominator ie non english speaking or reading driver who comes here thinking he's really making the big bucks now. And isnt trained properly. Because a fair amount of any drivers can't even fill out a paper log right anymore. But then what do I know I liked old log rules when I wasn't forced to drive in rush hour traffic and take a break when I wanted and not worry about 14 hour time clock. Yes states would love VMT and I could see it where elog data would be transmitted to scale house computer at prepass sites.
