I just renewed for another 3 years, signed the wife up also. Could be better but it's all we got and there is strength in numbers.

This is why OOIDA exists, no they are not perfect but any effort is better than none.. I also would suggest getting your Senator and congressman's number on speed dial. For the speedlimter ruling coming along. Once they start it will only end when you have to pay a bureaucrat (out of your pocket) to ride shotgun to make sure you stay in compliance. Don't laugh all of the slaughter house's pay the salary for the inspector assigned to them.

The whole ELD thing as has been mentioned has many dimensions for the "stake holders" i.e. the ATA, truckload carriers conference, et al. Just like the speed limiter thing, if you think they are a great idea go ahead and use them, just don't make them mandatory.
Until someone details to the authorities how the land of unintended consequences turns their safety argument upside down(driving faster than conditions to beat the clock, inadequate safe parking when the machine says no hours left etc.) they will continue to push and hard. I am sure the OOIDA will make these arguments in the courtroom and have a fair chance of succeeding.

They want a one-size-fits-all rule for an industry that isn't one-size-fits-all.

The goofy thing is that 80% of all crashes involve cars, light trucks and SUV's. While less than 10% involve large trucks. Even if trucks and cars were involved in the same accidents, that still leaves over 70% of all fatal crashes involving only cars, pickups and suv's. It seems to me that is where they need to focus legislation and regulation.

I got all this info from the NHTSA report from 2005 that I found online and attached here so you all can read it for yourself.
