this was brought up some time ago. i do believe the answer is, most alcohol content in mouth washes are dissipated rather quickly. now frankly, i rarely use OTC cough syrups, so if those have alcohol i am unaware of this.

i will check into this though.

ok, from what i have been reading on medical websites, the alcohol content in cough medicines is rather small. taken in proper dosage, one should pass a breathalyzer.

 

Horse hockey pucks, no cough syrup has the staying power to blow illegal, and you have the right to request a blood sample be taken instead of a breathalyzer.

People like that also think poppy seeds lead to false positive drug screens

or to much allergy medicine


I mean the excuses someone will come up with

No one would eat enough to come close to a positive. It is a fantasy told by those who introduce chemicals into their body to convince others they do not. I do not require to pro-chemical inducement web sites to tell me there could be a possibility.

They are the same ones spreading the myth of cough syrup getting you a DUI.

Find a reputable testing service that claims false positives and I'll look at their research. Posting some drug user reference material is insufficient.

Okay, DUII, in Oregon, is not necessarily specific to alcohol. It stands for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. That means it can be any substance that hinders your ability to safely conduct a vehicle down a public roadway. (DWI = Driving While Intoxicated. OVI = Operating a Vehicle while Intoxicated) you will note there is not a specific intoxicant (alcohol) named. Since alcohol is the most common intoxicant, there are specific procedures and tests done to build a case against the alleged drunk.

In the matter of other intoxicants, it generally falls to the officer's discretion as to whether you are intoxicated. OTC meds that can cause you to be arrested for DUII include but are not limited to Nyquil, Benadryl, Tylenol PM, chlorpheniramine and many other cold/sleep/allergy remedies. If you take too many Nodoz, you can be DUII. And, yes, in spite of slick landshark lawyers, the cases have held up in court. Mainly because the officer was able to describe in detail the behaviors noted, loss of motor conrol, disorientation and judgment lapse. See, no matter what you blow, if you display any of the aforementioned symptoms of DUII, you may be cited.

Regarding poppy seeds....poppycock. you'd have to be a habitual eater of about a tablespoon per day. Eating one poppyseed roll will not pop you positive.

what it comes down to is, the POSSIBILITY DOES EXIST for a positive test result eating poppy seeds................no one can DENY this, as i have proven by supplying many links............to FACTS........!!!!!!

 

That's funny, I took two Tylenol PM every night to get to sleep fast and deep and never did I ever have a problem with any tests.

I'm beginning to think it's the lab that's pushing out these positives and not doing the testing right.

 

Tylenol PM won't pop you positive for a drug test, but the diphenhydramine in it can cause you to be considered "intoxicated" or "impaired" if you took a high enough dose that it's affecting your driving.

I've never seen poppy seeds on a BK bun. I have seen sesame seeds, though. Does your quoted study indicate sesame seeds can be a problem?

I don't doubt poppy seeds can cause trouble. Opium is, after all, a product of poppies. I am only saying that a single poppy seed roll or muffin or piece of cake is extremely unlikely to cause a false positive. You'd have to eat the whole cake, not just a piece of it. When I went in for my drug test for Prime, I had eaten a poppy seed muffin for breakfast. They still put me in a truck, so either Prime will hire anybody who can breathe, or I didn't pee positive. But that was over two years ago. Maybe they're hydroponically farming poppy seeds now like they are pot...and increasing the potency while they're at it...
