Does it vary by state?

Actually, it is 10 days, I just went through this; it is in their Form OP-1.
from the form on page 4;
At the same time the grant letter is mailed, notice of each company’s application for Operating Authority will be published in the FMCSA Register. This publication initiates the 10-calendar-day protest period, during which any individual can file a protest with FMCSA stating why a company should not be issued Operating Authority. FMCSA will accept protests sent by mail as long as they are postmarked by the last day of the protest period. FMCSA will provide the applicant with information on the protest resolution process if any protests are filed. During this protest period, Insurance Companies and Process Agents can file the necessary documents detailed in Step 4 and Step 5 below.
Now if you can point me to something that says otherwise, I will apologize to you for my mistake.
No, it is a federal thing, states have zero to do with it.Oxbow and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
THANK YOU!!! I thought it was 21 days but 10 days is a lot better. My insurance was activated 4/25 but I re-applied for MC 23. Any date better than 21.

They must have changed it. When I got my authority it was 21 days
-
Could i ask how long it take for your authority from start to finish?
-
I thought it was 14 days. It’s an Archaic rule left over from before deregulation. It kept any New Carriers out. New applications would be posted in the ICC news publication. Pretty much everyone would protest, saying they had capacity in whatever lanes you planned on servicing. Now nobody ever protests. I imagine a bad player, or unsafe Owner could get protested. But I doubt anyone’s paying much attention these days.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
FMCSA will not activate your MC Number until sufficient proof of insurance is filed. As long as sufficient insurance is kept on file, an MC Number never needs renewed. You have up to 90 calendar days to purchase a qualifying insurance policy and have your insurance company file proof of coverage. If insurance is not on file within that time frame, the FMCSA will automatically dismiss your application and you will have to reapply and repay the $300 fee. You can look it up on Safersyst.Rideandrepair Thanks this.
