BTW - Brickman suggested that I start this as a thread to get the info I was seeking for the reason he stated in his post on this thread.

For what its worth, we figured our cost for the first 6 months of this year # 1.56 per mile over 68,000 miles. Truck has a payment, trailer paid for, no one puts a wrench on the truck but me, I even change a lot of my own tires and am pretty careful about fuel economy (slowed down, try not to idle) I could see close to $2 not being unreasonable for someone who does nothing but drive.

$0.076 per mile for fuel? I wish my truck got fuel mileage like that. Does your truck have any warranty on it? $416 a month doesn't seem like much if it doesn't. That's only $4992 per year for major repairs. How much have you spent so far this year on major repairs (beyond oil changes, since it looks that that's all you're putting into your PM's.)? -
What about the money you put into BUYING the truck and trailer? You did buy them both cash didn't you? Or have you ever heard of ROI? You still have to replace the money you put into buying the equipment. One large repair, such as an engine rebuild or tranny, will cost a LOT more than 416.00 a month. Trust me,I have been there and done that. Lilbit, average operating costs are between 1.40-1.70 a mile depending on the cost of fuel. Rates will vary depending on what part of the country you are booking freight from and at the time of year. Some areas are slow and some areas are busy at certain times of the year. If you are trying to book a high-paying out of areas like TX and FL or anywhere in between you will be in for some stiff competition since most shippers are paying 1.60 a mile or less.If you are booking freight out of IL. and the midwest you can easily get high-paying rates. Sometimes 2.00 per mile is a good-paying load and sometimes it is very cheap. For example a load paying 2.00 per mile to go into an area like TX or FL is very cheap but from TX going to IL it is considered good-paying. Get an ITS account for 35.00 a month and go to broker tools and check out Ratemate and load densities for different states. That will give you an idea of what areas are busy and what areas are slow. -
Are you saying youve had less than $9984 in repairs in the past two years? How much less have you had? What's the biggest repair you've had to make? -
