I got 1 insurance quote for $2300/ downpayment, $915/ monthly. Scac cost is $75, mc# is $300, tag $1306/ yr. Plus a few other paperwork that you have to submit to the ports etc. Your insurance company probably charge a small fee to do the paperwork. I'm waiting on 2 more insurance quote then I potable choose the middle quote. Also need to add workman's comp to the insurance

Thanks. I really appreciate that info. All this plus opening up your LLC, everything is about 4k-5k of an investment before you can start pulling your first load. Does that sound right?

Your biggest hurdle i would say is getting bonded insurance for 1 million. You have to have that in most cases before a customer will consider letting you pull their freight. Have you checked that out yet?

Also, if your going to run under your own authority, make sure you are incorporated. In the event something happens, they cant come after you and your family, just the business. Or if it doesnt work out, and you file for bankruptcy, it doesnt hurt you as bad because the business went under. I wish you the best, but always be prepared for the worst. Ive been an owner operator for many years. I dont know everything, but enough to stay in business.

I appreciate the info, and any other additional info you would like to add. I have one insurance quote already, since I'm not rushing to get out on my own just yet, so I'll find out how much it is bonded for.
I will definitely incorporate but I heard from another driver that being a truck driver in itself can effect you personally even though you're incorporated depending on the situation. Like, lets say you're in an accident and you badly injure someone or worse, they can come after you personally regardless of the business.
