the only part about this one that bothers me is the noise toy those things are aggravating as the devil. The modded 10 mtr radio is fine just stay where your supoed to be in the CB band and they are fine. They only cause problems when the operator is out of the CB band.

For $100, go for it. I personally don't like a Galaxy, I'm a Connex guy.
-
Don't galaxy and connex share a lot of parts? I have a guy here with a 3300hp and he only wants like 80$ for it. He said the meter is loose inside the radio, and that sounds like an easy enough problem to fix. How much do they go for new?
-
I think they go for about $180-$210. I've always heard Connex's were more solidly built and I just like there echo board better.TriAxleTrucker16 Thanks this.

Thank you all (TriAxleTrucker16, lvgn, kd5drx, PharmPhail and Mack185). I appreciate your feedback. As I say I know nothing about these kinds of radios. I went and bought the radio from the guy. It needs a little cleaning up but hope it will work ok. He did tell me that when I get it hooked up that if it did not work as I expect that he would give me my money back. He had a Galaxy 73 for sale and a little box that looked like what we used to call a linier. He said it was a 100 watt madulater. Is that the same as a linier?said he would take $50 for that. Wasn't sure if that was actuall what I would have wanted to boost power so I didn't get it at the time. I do have a question about the 77 I got from him. He said that the noise tow was put in on the Roger Beep button he thought. Does that mean that the roger beep does not work? He said the noise toy was that song from Cops (Bad Boys). I have never heard that noise on the CB. I would rather have the roger beep. Also, there was no owner's manual of course...what is the button that says: E-Tone? Also, what are the buttons that say: FINE-COARSE, H M L and 10KHz? One last question, I have just a stock antenna on the Volvo truck I drive at work. It's a slim fiberglass, maybe about 36 inches or so long, plactic wrapped antenna with the wire that is coiled around it all the way up. (I'm sure you guys know what I am talking about..this is pretty much what come on new truck from the factory). I also have a antenna that has a mirrow mount that is a thicker fiberglass, wire coiled up it, wrapped in that plastic, that is about 30 inches or so, I think it is a Firestick brand. Are either of these antennas ok or should I get something different?
I hate coming on here looking so dumb but I really know nothing about all these features and the guy I got it from did really explain much to me and a couple of things I didn't think about asking till we parted company. I figured that I could get more info from you guys here than from him. So I do hope you guys can help me out so that when I am ready to hook it up I won't mess up anything. I have been driving a truck for over 36 years but just never really spent much on radios and didn't have anything very fancy.
I look forward to your reply and any help any of you care to give me. Thanks again to all of you that have and are helping me. -
You'd probably be better off with an antenna on each mirror, but that firestick will probably do. As far as the 10k switch, don't turn it on. Find out which band is the cb bands and stay on them, don't talk on the 10 meter band or the hams will come looking. I think it should be on AM and D for the cb bands. Be sure to get an external SWR meter to tune those antennas. Never trust the factory meter, that was one of the first lessons I learned on this site. I think the fine coarse switch is like a clarifier for ssb. Just be careful, like I said before the fines are stiff. By the way, Mack185, the guy dropped the price on that 3300 to $75. I told him as long as I could test it I would take it.

The HML is probably power settings or tone quality of the out put speaker. the E tone is part of the echo board and adjust the tone and the reverb adjust the other part. The 10 Khz switch will put you between channels there is usually 20 khz between channels except for a few and this will put you between channels so take the advise and don't use it. Other than that stay on the CB bands and enjoy and make sure no one has done one of those mods to the fine and course controls it should only work the recieve but soem folks mod them to do recieve and transmit if they have you can get off freq pretty easy and sound bad to every one around you.

Most of the guys from around here run those 10-meters and as long as you stay on CB you should be good to go. I am even looking into getting one this week. Some fellows around here go on the other freqs. as well and as far as I know no one has bothered them. Even if I get this one tommorow, I wont venture outside the CB 40.
