It's a CYA aspect, kylefitzy. If it's edge protected, except for preference, there would be nothing wrong, I guess. However, I hate having to undo my tarps just because somebody wants to make sure I used edge protection.....which is why I usually use chains for a suicide coil. The assumption being, a DOT LEO would care less if the chain was edge protected, or if the strap had edge protection that was over the tarp, being the tarp is a kind of edge protection, but if the strap going over the coil outside of the tarp is edge protected all is good, whereas he might be concerned about a strap not being edge protected that is going through the middle of the coil which is actually supposed to hold the coil immobile. The strap over the top is usually a supportive, rather than primary securement and therefore, of more concern.
