Unfortunately with these newer trucks I think you're SOL with most of these tips. My experience has been the Icon system (Cummins) in an 09 Volvo, and then non Icon equipped Cummins in an 09 Pete, and now a 2012 KW.

I was taught a trick, in the Volvo, that if you simply jumped the extreme left side pin to the extreme right side pin of the diagnostic connector under the dash, it would idle low speed forever and not log the idle time!

Where I am now if I chose to idle I simply bump the cruise up like normal and she'll run forever. However, the idle shutdowns are getting ridiculous and dangerous! Anyone who travels through Breezewood on a remotely regular basis knows about the ridiculous wait to get the left turn arrow into the Pilot. This KW will shut down on me, sitting in the left turn lane, clutch in, tranny in gear, other foot on service brake!

In closing, are there that many companies out here that are too cheap to spec a ******* bunk heater?! Even my Central truck had one.

bbechtel16, yes, there are many companies that are too cheap to install a bunk heater, many that set trucks where they wont idle at all, some have a policy of no idling unless it is 10 degrees or less (and that aint for the drivers comfort, it is so the tightwads dont have to pay to un-gell or jumpstart a truck). I know of one large flatbed carrier who tested APU's. The penny pinchers decided that due to the cost of installing them, and the cost of the fuel they used they where not cost effective. Driver comfort and convenience was never even figured in.

Just wait until a driver dies of heat stroke or freezes to death in his truck and some lawyer gets a hold of it !!!

The more and more I read about some of these carriers makes me want to just hang it up completely, what a JOKE !!!!
