Been following your posts about this company. Interested to see how things go with your Trans Am trainer and initial solo experience.

Might help me decide whether to give them a try, or not. Be safe.

I can tell that you're very new to the trucking industry, so I'll make this brief. If you stay in trucking, you'll very quickly see just how dangerous the liberal democrats are to truck drivers. You'll find out on your own.

sorry it took me so long to post.i am with my trainer who is a lease driver for trans am.he picked me up at 8 30 a.m. and off we went to get the trailor.there was a lil small talk to feel each other out.he told me he would drive the first 175 miles then i could take the wheel.i was o.k. with that.fist let me tell u this story for those considering comin here.if u are given a comdata card u have 24 hrs to activate it.if u dont u will be like me out here with a blocked card.i cant get any money off of it..i was told i would have to bring it back in person to get it activated.so to make a long story short.if i hadnt saved me some money i would be t totally broke out here.when i was told to bring it back to texas i was in nebraska.what a bunch of crap.anyway back to the trainer.day one i drove 55o miles while he sat in the passenger seat playing on his computer.we delivered some tires and he let me alley dock did it with 2 pull ups.went on my 10 hour break and was woke up at 2 a.m. wanting me to help with some stuck tandems.like i knew what to do..duhh...im new to this.fiinally dispatch told him to sit and wait till the shop opened and get it fixed.we did i finally got some sleep at 5 a.m.2 hrs..when i woke up he said o.k. jump in the drivers seat and drive.i said can i urinate first.he said yes so i drove another 400 miles the second day.then it hit me.this guy just wants me to drive while he plays on the computer.not training me on anything,he said i got plenty of time to learn. so we get dispached from nebraska to columbia south carolina.i drove 400 miles and got tired he stated no u got to learn how to drive the mountainous roads to learn i stated no im tired and sleepy i wasnt going to do it.he got mad and drove from knoxville to s.c.i was sitting in the passenger seat with my eyes closed and he sated u cant sleep in the passenger seat get in the back if u sleepy.i told him i was praying and asked him is it a rule that i couldnt pray ? our load is due monday # 7 a.m. he has family in columbia we got here friday today and here im sitting in the truck 2 days while hes home with his family.he told me i would have to pay for a hotel since it wasnt his home time..can any body tell me if this is the norm ? leave a student driver in the truck alone for 2 days while u go home ? now grant it we have had 3 disagreements 1 major about me not wanting to drive 500 plus miles a day while he drives just 175-200.the major had me on the brink of ringing his neck litterally.when i run out of hrs.he drives a couple of hours and then pulls over to sleep.in 3 days i have driven 1200 miles and not learned anything, hadnt seen him pretrip had learned the reefer unit, hadnt done nothing but drive. i told him u are not running me death so u can make your truck payments and talk on the phone while i do all the running.now mind u folks i love to work with people and im not complaining but something isnt right with this picture.help me out here.more later:biggrin_25518:

LOL I see where this is going. Thats the problem with you libs, always worried about the other guy instead of yourself. I myself would be thankful I was getting all the seat time. And from all the other posts, I thought it was a good thing when the student did all the driving and the mentor didnt drive at all. Maybe you should call someone at trans am and tell them your situation, sure they will be glad to help you out! :biggrin_25525: Ohh and nice quote on your profile, wonder if you could insult a former POW any more!

im no expert but----i would want all the driving i could get. let the little stuff go for now. i would be doing my own pre trip and asking questions about everything. if you can just suck it up and get along with him the best you can for this short amount of time, it will help you in the long run. use this time to get used to driving and anything else you can take in for the moment. dont take it personal. its just trainning. get the most out of it and move on. this is a tuff time but you'll make it thru!!:yes2557:

Sounds like you hit the ground running Durrty. My trainer started out doing most of the driving, then worked me 4-5 hours first day, then increasing to 10-11. It seemed like a prudent way to go about it. Made to Drive 500 miles right out the gate can be very tiring when you're new to it, but I guess it's not all that uncommon, and you will get used to it. Driving through mountains when you feel fatigued isn't a good thing, especially for a newbie. I would be on your side of that issue. When he's in the passenger seat, he should be attentive to what you are doing. That's where the training takes place. Having said that, 11 hours is a long time and I doubt he wouldn't find time to do other things like talk on the phone or peek at his laptop. He's human too.

I had a hard time getting quality training. He wouldn't give me any info, let me plan, show me what's under the hood, anything like that. But I only lasted a week with him... I would hope this guy starts training you soon, instead of just letting you hold the wheel. Very important to remember you are in your first week. I really think things will improve for ya. Try to learn all you can from him. Ask about trip planning, logs, scales, anything you can think of. Get him talk'n about anything you can. Just find that balance between pick'n his brain and piszing him off. Just remember, you're the student in his truck. As far as "norms" go, if it can be done, it's probably normal! I don't know, but I've been told, "Truck'n ain't easy". Enjoy your restart, and keep this thread going.
