Change, Tcalled the load in the terminal in Kansas, then we are going to origon...

He is out of hours, for the duration of my fifty hours so long story xhort, in order to make this load I gotta average I think its 575-600 miles a day for the next 3 days, wants me to drive my 10-11, rest my 10, drive my ten repeate (If I understand him right) to make the load on time.

And as I promised myself and others that I would not lie or sugar coat in this thread.

    Its hard.

I did fine, I picked off 474 miles today, ground gearsx, ###### up shifting, had to restart shifting once....but over all the MAJORITY of my driving was ok...

THEN we got to the terminal....and I had to nose into a spot, at 11 at night, in a dimly lit lot, and in my tired state (4 hours sleep last night) he said "How is your trailer?" ANd after trainers screwing with me for so long I said the first, correct awnser in my head "I dont know" And I got yelled at and told to stop the truck if I dont know...

ok, valid, and true, I can accept that, but this was repeated, repeatedly.

So he makes me do it again, I get unsure, I stop, he gets mad that I stopped! BUt later apologised when he realised I stopped cuz I didnt know what to do.

Then, We drop trailer and im told to park:

    Problem.

Never driven bobtail. Ever. "What do I need to know" "Nothing" ok! Im tired, and trying to back into a spot and have to pause to figure out how to turn the wheel without a trailer. He gets mad, and parks it telling me 'how easy was that' essentually.

Right now? I agree with my teacher at school "You will wanna quit, you will wanna give up several times a day"

Right now? Im exausted, I wanna quit, and yeah, ##** it, I will admit it, make fun if you want, this very second, having been up 20 hours, 4 hours sleep, drive for 9.5, and knicking a sign with a mirror, 3 close calls, frustration and everything else? I wanna cry. I aint ashamed to admit it.

But im not going to give up, failure is not a option.

My trainer, is a good guy, and genuinely wants to TRAIN me it seems. its...just been a rough first day.

    *hugs you tightly*

It gets better bro. I know it hurts, I know it's scary. You've been through a rough day on little sleep. Be sure to get your sleep, be sure to remember that you're still learning -- the training yard was one thing, this is the road, and you've got some learning to go still.

    You will make it.

TD, I loved reading that. It gave me something to look forward to.

Keep up the good work, and keep up the perseverance - you are an inspiration to all of us new drivers.

Don't forget, driving a bobtail is like driving your car - there is no hinge point in the middle. Just drive it like a very big car.

    TruckerDragon Thanks this.

I have the same problem parking a bobtail. I actually have to stop and think about which way to turn the wheel. And my pickup with that short wheel base? You'd laugh your butt off at me.

That's always the problem, from what I saw in school.

Which way do I turn the wheel????

We will always have to stop and figure out which way to turn it, because we seem to always be driving something different. :biggrin_2559:

TD, I hope you succeed - because I also want to succeed. All we can do, is to do our best.

I will also be a Swifty, if I get through orientation next week.

    Injun - luv ya, always.

just lil me, TruckerDragon and Injun Thank this.
