    Thanks Paddington,

This mail contractor has little turn over and the drivers i talked to said they really like it there.
They do pay what the Postal service says that the route pays. They said any waiting at a Postal facility over 15 minutes we are to get a late slip to turn in to dispatch. So the way i understood them we get paid for that time.
We do get extra Holiday pay but do work holidays and weekends but are supposed to get the next day off.

There was one other guy in orientation that has worked for 2 other mail contractors in the past and said this was a much better deal.

This is a smaller family owned company but they are growing really fast.

So i will give it a shot and see what the money and routes are.If it ends up being crap i will go back to a mileage pay job.

10-4, sounds like a good deal.
Like I said, it's all in the route tho...I run for a mail contractor on the weekends...get 12.5 hours at $24.58/hr (I decline the health insurance).
    All turnpike, drop-n-hook, turn-n-burn.
    It's the easiest $$$$ I've ever made.

"Star runs" can suck...these are local routes where you start at the main DC and drive 30 min to an hour or two to another DC...and then get a load back.
From there you might get sent to another local DC somewhere else and then even out to another (hence the star pattern).
These runs kick-off at like 0200 in the morning.

Now, the guy I cover for has it made in the shade.
He runs the same route that I do above but he only works Tues-Fri and still makes $64,000 home everynight and a 3-day weekend every week.
This is probably the best trucking job you will find anywhere! :biggrin_25525:

Thanks for the info.I just hope i get a good route.
I had to take the insurance because i had no health insurance.
So that will put me around the 19 to 22 an hour.

They said i may not get a regular route right off the bat but i'll hang in there a bit to see.
After the Christmas rush the routes should sort out i was told.

I sure hope it works out for you EZ. After 27 years as a trucker, you will KNOW that you can't start out at the TOP. But after 27 years as a trucker, I'm sure you have paid more than your share of "dues."

    Thanks Big Don!

Yea,not expecting to get the best runs or the newest trucks.
Hopefully they will tell after a few weeks i'm the type that keeps the left door shut and gets it done.
I always used to be that big truck in the hammer lane gettin it done!
Most of the drivers i have met there so far are much younger than me....so i will be considered the "new" old fart......

    ROFLMAO! :biggrin_2559:Oh I certainly have been there!:biggrin_2559:

FWIW, I know a guy who drove for the company that I worked for. Nice guy, but sort of had an "attitude." He had tried OTR and regional, then he came to us as LTL. He did the local P&D gig, then tried line haul. Nothing seemed to work out for him.

After leaving our company though, he hired on with one of the mail haulers, and has been doing it for several years now. Last time I talked to him, he was really quite happy there.

I did find one thing he told me kind of interesting. When he does a turn where he meets another driver, they don't drop and hook trailers. They switch out the whole truck! From what he says, his company uses this to route all their tractors back through their main yard so the shop can keep them maintained.

I guess it makes sense, but to me, this would be the very worst type of "slip seating" you could do. But it works for him, and he is happy. That is all that matters.

    Thanks Don,

Yes,They told me i would be doing a lot of relays meeting another driver but we just swap trailers and exchange paperwork.Check the seal and ride.

I'm looking forward to getting started just to see how i like it.

All i'm waiting on is my Postal badge then off i go.

I may do one ride along with a driver just to get the hang of the Qualcomm and the procedure at the Postal hubs but they said they would pay me for that even if i wanted to do a couple of them.

They are also going to electronic logs soon so that will be nice.(I hope)

Still miss hauling groceries...that was a great job.

Really! I wish the company could hurry them along but that is our great government for ya!
I bet they are slammed right now being the holidays are not far off.

I noticed several local ads for temp drivers for the mail.I wonder if the temp drivers have to go through all this red tape?
