Gloves , Gloves & More Gloves , ones for fueling and ones for basic outdoor use is advised .. A hoody , long johns and 2 pairs of boots... you can go w/ less but I had to learn the hard way to have more then 2 pairs of gloves when I was finished putting on the chains... and yes in Montana, ND I've had to fuel in -36 / -47 with the wind chill just this past winter... Be safe, take it easy out there and let us know how it goes.

On my second & final week of orientation. So far, so good. This week will be more city driving & our hill run should be Tuesday, or Wednesday at this latest. It's been busy every day with class, practice, homework, & my own practice after hours. Hill decent is my biggest worry right now as I sometimes have issues getting my downshifts in sync. Despite most likely getting an automatic, it's something we're still required to know how to do (far from a bad idea IMO).

You'll be fine just don't ride the brakes, keep your distance from traffic in front of you and be sure your in the right gear before you descend.

Part of the orientation decent drive is downshifting while going down. It's something they need you to learn before passing here.
OONewbie Thanks this. -
lol -74 ambient now add 20+mph winds last winter (2013/14) got to love northern alaska (Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse). But yes Layers. Underarmour (I use Cat myself and they are comfortable and warm like none other) winter base layer both legs and shirt, Jeans, WIND JACKET (wind blows right through regular clothing making you colder quicker) sometimes a simple sweatshirt can do. If you can Carhartt winter Bibs, and jacket, wool socks, insulated boots. 3/4 of them will run $75 easily. and a nice beanie cap will do perfectly.
