I'd be lying if I said I never look around.
I'd be hauling beer for a local distb in Sea-Tac right now if my brother hadn't been transferred to Germany, and my sister moved to CA.
My brother will move back when he retires in 3 years... As far as I know the job offer wil stand until then, if I keep my record clean.
I was up there yesterday for a couple of deliveries and made sure to have dinner with my brother's in-laws... It's their connections that make the beer job possible.
Eh.. I'm still happy here, and besides, I've got 2.5 more years until I'm fully vested with the 401k matching funds from Prime... And I'm still socking away a good chunk of money every month in my own IRA and savings.
I just got to knock off some of my more expensive trips. Unfortunatly I got talked into going to the Vegas race in March, and I'm trying to use two weeks of my paid vacation to go to Germany next fall. -
I get it all the time, how's prime, how's the pay. How much home time. Forget about it, I allready know your expectations are too high. For a new student, your threshold for pain should be high. Don't expect to be here that long, nobodys talking about the turnover rate, even with the current state of affairs, its high. I have had 12 students this past year and I only know of 4 that stuck with it so far. I look for my bonus money and its not there, #### lost another one. Prime wins both ways, I lose... Today I sit here in Cinc, OH all day for my 20:00 load to Virginia, Its past time now, but gotta give two hours before detention time starts., You will never see the money because the game is rigged, at least for this company driver., so forget about it..... Just get down the road and deliver next day, overnight runs where you fight to stay awake, who cares,, just forget about it.......because the next load won't be any better..... So when another driver asks how's Prime, I say forget about it, move on.. Students, welcome aboard, and please stay a while at least till I get my bonus money...........

Its not Prime in terms of student retention - that's industry-wide. Yup, company drivers never get detention pay, and no, its not rigged. The company policy is to not pay company drivers detention - on the lease side that's totally different. Any time I'm stuck at a receiver - I annotate arrival and depart times - and get detention.
Sounds like you're really in the wrong business. Overnight loads aren't something that's peculiar to Prime. Its called getting the shelves stocked so shoppers have something to buy when the store opens. And frankly, driving at night is much more efficient - takes most of the traffic out of the equation. -
I know what you're saying Grumpy. I just unloaded at Dunn, NC yesterday AM and got sent down to Dillon, SC for a Perdue load. Short little run to Bridgewater, VA. Not only was it short it wasn't ready to go! So I had to do an eight there to get enough hours back to run it. And now it's Friday morning and I have no hours until tonight! Probably won't load until tomorrow.
And I'm cool with all of it. Crappy load time. Last week I ran 3200 miles and squeezed in a 34 hour reset. On the phone with dispatch today and was told he's working me towards home for Thanksgiving (unrequested). Told him if I'm going to be off over the Holiday, I'd like to do it in SpriMo and get the truck over to Frieghtliner and me down to see my girl in AR. "No problem, man."
Not even going to mention the generous "pay" I got last time truck was in the shop. Well, I guess I already did!
Got to take the crap loads with the good ones. Attitude counts for more than you may realize.Wanna drive Thanks this. -
Its the time of year Emton... its always like this. The good miles start petering-out into these shorter deals; its the slow bottom to the freight cycle. For me, enough of this builds into a fairly decent week on the lease side. Just gotta hang on until things start picking up after the bottom of the year.
Learn to use the split sleeper berth rule - remember, that 8 doesn't count towards your 14... but you get hours back as soon as its combined with a 2-hour break. -
Ive had two trainees. 1 has stuck it out for over a year now. Congratulations Emton

However, I dont know what possesed the last one to go out and Lease a truck right out of the gate. Its only a 15 week Lease, but I dont know much about leasing and I didnt teach him a thing about leasing.
I'll let you guys know.
