New to this. What are schedules like on a dedicated route? is it 5 on, 2 off, home weekends, 3 and 3? i have no idea. Also, What kind of schedule do you get being OTR?
I do know that I dont want to be a team driver to start, what suggestions do you have for a new driver to start?
Thanks!
OTR, Dedicated,? What realistic hometime?

Most all places will only hire you OTR
A few might give you regional and home for a 34 hour reset.
Nowhere will anybody hire a noob on dedicated.
OTR is usually two weeks out for two days home a minimum.
Or stay out longer -
You might look at Prime Inc. and run dedicated food grade tankers out of Chattanooga.
Watkins-Shepard Dalton, GA terminal is dedicated carpet hauling; driver no touch, shipper loads/receiver unloads.
Navajo has dedicated run out of Atlanta hauling frozen foods.
The dedicated jobs are there, but you have to search for them.Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
Chinatown - I am interested in both Watkins-Shepard or US Xpress. I would like to take a dog with me and both these companies allow it. What kind of schedule could I be looking at with a dedicated route?

and they'll hire dedicated with ZERO experience?Chinatown Thanks this.

Dedicated, the key for the company is to make the delivery, maybe pick up a back haul and then get the trailer back to the assigned terminal ASAP for reloading.
freightwipper - yes, dedicated with zero experience. -
Interesting.
When I started out all I was offered was OTR.
Regional for some flatbed
that's it -
I understand; you have to be proactive to find those jobs. Everyone in CDL school is offered OTR jobs, but you must look at companies that don't recruit from CDL schools also.Wild Murphy Thanks this.

Some companies will hire on as a dedicated driver to start, others wont. If its dedicated your looking for best bet is to pick the phone and start dialing company after company after company. Home time and earnings will vary wildly on dedicated routes just depends on the route and usually routes with the best perks dont go to new guys. Remember when your calling companies to find out what theyve got avail that youll be talking to a recruiter and some recruiters lie. Dedicated routes however are typically handled only by certain dispatchers in the company i would ask the recruiter for name or number of one of the dispatchers that handles the route your interested in they much more knowledgeable and able to answer your questions pertaining directly to the route. Typical otr hometime will vary from 4-6 days off each month depending on the company . And as for team driving its called training and you will have to spend time with a trainer as a team no matter where you go. Also training is good thing you will be in situations out here that frankly scare the crap out you mainly he winter time and especailly as new guy. This job can be dangerous get proper training.

I am fully expecting to be OTR my first year out and actually looking very forward to it. This is something I WANT to do. It looks to me to be an enjoyable career. I am sure it isnt easy but good things usually take work any way. As for the trainer team driving, I am looking forward to that to. I want to learn as much as possible. I am someone who like to know what to do. Thanks for the good advice.
